I just got back from 1 week vacation.
Very disappointed with this hotel.
The staff: I travelled to Cuba several time and I never encountered such a rude staff at the hotel. The reception desk , the waiters are very impolite and unhelpful.. .they seem irritated any time the guests are asking for something. This is creating a chaos among guests who are stressed out and tired.
The food is bad, really bad ..even for Cuba...: no labels, recycled dishes, cold dishes, impossible to chew meats, seafood which has questionable smell and taste..., big line ups for pancakes, omelets, and grilled meats.
Coffee at the restaurant is terrible: weak and cold. You have to go to coffee shop to get a proper coffee.
The beach is very nice but too small and not enough chairs. you must get up at 5 am to reserve a chair with umbrella. A lot of litter on this beach and staff does not care.
A lot of smoking everywhere
A hotel has dirty furniture in the lobby and ripped couches, broken mirrors in elevators and it is only 1 year old.
I do not recommend and this is a 2-3 star hotel no more,,,

We, two couples, seniors and experienced Cuban visitors with 28 visits between us were at the IBV 21 to 28 March. We arrived late in the evening. Check in was quick. We went off into the unknown, got lost, do our key to our room did not work when we finally got the correct floor. Our friends did.
When we got in with a new key we were pleasantly surprised. Clean, spacious, room with king sized bed, clean modern bathroom with shower area. During the day the opaque window at one end of the shower area allowed daylight to brighten the bathroom but provided privacy when using the shower. No problem with water pressure or temperature.
Flat screen TV, coffee maker, fridge with pop, water and beer.
Nice windows looking towards the bay not the gulf. Morning sunrises are great.
Table and chairs on the balcony.
Each day the room was tidied and a new towel art appeared. The beach towels were in the room. We had them for the week.
Iberostar needs to look at who services their elevators. Some days only 1 out of 4 were functioning. One had a smashed mirror. That is one of the problems we ran into.
The buffets each area had a food cooking station and if you wanted your food hot eg. Omelettes or steak/pork chops that was were you went. There was also two pasta areas you could get hot pasta with hot sauces. Otherwise you may have to put up with lukewarm unlabeled food. OK I will say it "you don't go to Cuba for the food" but we have had much better in other resorts.
Their are other areas to eat such as OLAS a snack bar with good food. Than you Massiel for your service every day. The lobster or shrimp BBQ near there was good a well.
We never had problems getting chairs by the sea dragon pool or the larger pools. The beach did get very busy but there were still seats. The weather was quite windy and cool for a couple of days so we did not go to the beach. Instead we relaxed in the enormous round loungers on the deck behind the lobby area and our pina colada time there. When is it not pina colada time.
No problems using the hotel bank to exchange money. A bit of a line.
However the gift shop next to it was smaller than the bathroom in our room! Yes there two other small area for cards or tee shirts but the hotel as large as it is should have bigger and better gift shop areas.
The lobby is spacious and airy. Open on both sides the winds can funnel through making uncomfortably cool. Bring a sweater. The bar is handy, the servers friendly and staff can serve you in any of the seating areas.
OK a lot of positives. But it may be too big, not enough staff in key areas like the buffets. Not enough staff to book the a la cartes, ridiculously long line and wait. We used one a la carte, the Italian, and the meal was good. Good service and well done food.
We some improvement in the areas I noted the IBV has the potential to be true 5 star.
We will look in on our trip to another resort.

After reading reviews I was nervous however when we arrived I was very happily surprised.
Booked through Thomas Cook and all was fine.
I would definitely recommend you book elite as the food is very good upstairs and the drinks are far better also. The other restaurants are very hit and miss. The 11th floor bar and restaurant are very good with great views also.
Get up early to get a sun lounger on beach (7am).
Always have lunch on 11th floors, lobster there everyday!
Shower is very hit and miss, can be boiling hot or freezing.
No insects as they spray every night.
Make sure you go to Havana and go on the Catamaran trip for the day.

Many good things to note about this hotel.
Excellent room, comfy bed, excellent shower and w.c. No problems with hot water.
Superb views over the beach and ocean. We had room 10621.
Very good maid service.
The hotel is almost sat on the beach which is beautiful and very safe. The water is aquamarine. Always sun beds available but they are hard white plastic- take covers for your own comfort. Drinks are available from the beach bar served in plastic cups.
The swimming pools are large and clean served with a pool bar area.
The food is variable. Lots of choices but repetitive every day. We preferred to eat breakfast and lunch in the Caracola restaurant as it is less hectic. Snacks are good and coffee from the coffee/ smoking bar is excellent.
The main buffet can be very busy . Service is good . We always found enough tasty food to eat. I enjoyed the soups, salads ,pasta dishes ,chicken ,pork and all the desserts.
Sometimes you had to guess what the dishes were, but many things were labelled.
In our opinion, the only alacarte restaurant worth going to was the Japanese .
However, booking alacarte is a pain. You have to wait in line for upto 50 mins to book as it is only done on Sunday mornings- it’s a joke.
The lobby area is pleasant with evening entertainment every day - live music is great.
The lobby bar is busy which requires more bar staff. The all inclusive drinks are excellent- top alcoholic brands of gin, whiskey, vodka, rum, and decent beers.
Ordering a coffee here is very difficult, especially in the mornings.
We didn’t attend the evening entertainment events but others said that they were good.
WiFi is ok in the lobby area, but it costs 1 cuc per hour - you buy a card from the banking room.
It’s worth a trip to Varadero on the open top bus. We enjoyed the market.
It’s a 2 -3 hour drive to Havana. Go on an arranged trip if you can .We went on the Havana overnight trip and enjoyed every minute. We didn’t choose to go to club Tropicana which many of our acquaintances said was a rip off.
This was our first trip to Cuba.We travelled with Thomas Cook from Manchester.
All went well with the flights and transfers- no problems.
We really enjoyed our holiday,Cuba is a unique place and the people very nice and welcoming.

The place is lovely, definitely upgrade so you can eat breakfast and lunch up in elite restaurant, that bar is amazing too! Adrian is a dream up there! I miss him!

The food isn’t great but I think that’s expected in Cuba, also my friend had issues with WiFi that was a problem for her so if you need to be permanently connected Cuba isn’t the place for you!
