“Tired and lacking entusiasm”
Review of Museo del Carnaval

A few rooms of old photos of past carnivals and a couple of faded costumes does not justify the 1 cuc entrance. The 'show' at 4pm (Cuban time!) does not justify the other cuc they lift off you. The whole place is tired and lacks enthusiasm (except when telling you it will be 5 cucs extra if you want to use a camera)

Good artist in ront room whose paintings are modern takes on Orishas. Talk to him if you speak Spqnish. The museum was interesting, samall. Nice old photos. Explanationa in Spanish.
4 PM drumming and dancing show which demonstrated Orisha prsonalities was good. If you go with a guide, ask them to explain.

Although quite interesting there is a limited amount to see and will only take you a few minutes to walk around. I would recommend not paying extra 5cuc for photos as that is very over priced.

While the museum itself has rather dingy representations of what must be fabulous Carnival costumes, the folk dancing troupe got visitors up and dancing and was a lot of fun. African rhythms, quite different from much of the other music we heard along the way.

Our experience at the museum was full of fantastic Santiago carnival imagery, but sadly accompanied with "carnival" performed by cleaning ladies that were moping the floor and really disliked our attendance in the house. We were there in the middle of the day of course :)
