If you are going to visit Havana, especially by way of a cruise ship, book early with Havana Journeys and you will have the absolutely best tour and a unique people-to-people experience in Cuba. I just returned from a cruise that stopped in Havana for a day and a half. I traveled with my 95-year-old mother who wanted to see Cuba for her birthday and smoke a Cuban cigar. Havana Journeys was very accommodating and set up a six hour custom tour complete with walk through Old Havana and a ride through the modern part of the city in a classic "almendron" - a 1955 Oldsmobile 98. Our guide Ada was charming, spoke perfect English, and was very patient as she guided my mom and her walker and me through the cobblestone streets and plazas. Then we met our driver again and cruised the Malecon along the water. Ada suggested lunch at a fantastic paladar that was a charming outdoor restaurant in the backyard of a private home (it's called Buenaventura). Lunch was excellent with a friendly staff and patrons. We sat at a table between a local family and visitors from Canada and Moscow. After lunch, we got back in the car and drove by Castillo del Morro and stopped to take in the view and the statue at Cristo de la Habana. We had a fantastic tour and even stopped at a store so I could buy some Havana Club rum and mom could buy her cigar (she chose Fidel's favorite - a Cohiba). In summary, Havana Journeys is professional, very reasonable in cost, and employs excellent drivers and guides who will really show you Havana. And participating in one of their tours fully complies with the new People-to-People requirements (31 CFR part 515) imposed last summer by the US Treasury Department. Trust me, I'm a lawyer and I researched it.
