“Great location for a starting point”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2012

This review is of the actual park itself. Somehow the only other review seems to relate to the Hotel. This is a great place from which to start exploring Central and Old Havana. It is an absolutely beautiful park surrounded by several historical buildings including the Old Theatre and just steps away, the Capitol Building. Just a couple of blocks east is Old Havana. Bario China ( perhaps the most un-Chinese China Town in the world is just a couple of blocks southwest. If you have no knowledge of Spanish whatsoever and want a good starting point from whereever you happen to be in the city- flag down a taxi- say the words Parque Central and you will be off on your journey to explore one of the greatest cties in the Americas

“Excellent hotel in a fab city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2011

We stayed for 5 days after sunning in Guardalavaca. The hotel is just beautiful and very centrally located for sight-seeing as well as the many great bars where you can experience the vibant music and dancing. The style is modern so if you want more colonial and character it may not be for you. Rooms are lovely with huge beds and great views over the city if you get an outward facing room.

The staff are very good, expect city service to be different than in the resorts - more formal to start with but they soon warm to you, service is great, you won't have to so much as open a door yourself. And what's more they don't expect to be tipped just for breathing!

The location s just fab, if you want to see the sights see Joel outside and he will arrange a tour in an open top 50's Chevvy. Very touristy but he tells you a lot about the city and the people,. Don't miss Revolution Square, John Lennon Square and the Museum of the Revolution (very interesting to see the state view of Cuban life as opposed to speaking to the people on the streets!!!)

The hot-tub is the perfect way to end the day with a Mojito or glass of wine overlooking the city. None of the food in Cuba is great but the fillet steak in the Parque Central steak-house is just suberb. Over-priced but worth it after 10 days of cremated chicken and tasteless ham rissoles!

Drinks are expectedly more expensive but it is one of the few places you can get a decent glass of wine, and it still costs less than in the UK.

In the city itself the best bars are the less touristy ones but beware they will want you to buy their CD every time. Just politely decline and offer a contribution to the band. You will see some amazing dancing and they will get you up to join in. It's worth having some lessons before you go but if you're like us and have two left feet nobody cares, dancing is purely for fun there. The red Hanky Lady however is just superb. She dances in the corner of one of the squares - probably the only Cuban with no rythmn whatsoever but dances every day to entertain. She doesn't beg money, just dances and goes. She must be well into her 70's and is highly entertaining.

You do have to watch where you go, There are lots of streetgirls and everybody hassles you to take taxis, horse and carriage rides, buy cigars etc but I can honestly say that I never felt in danger. Just politely decline and walk on. Don't be caught by the locals asking you to buy baby milk for them, it's a scam, most of the babies thay are carrying are not even theirs - they are rented.

To sum up Havana is am amazing city - vibrant, full of life and fun! and the Parque Central is a great base from where to explore. You won't be disappointed!!
