10 days in Sandpiper and the restaurant never disappoints. The barbecues on Sunday nights are great. Fantastic range of fresh fish with great marinades. The chicken and Tuna especially good. We also repeated our wonderful evening on the corner of the decking overlooking the bay with great personal service at the table. Fantastic prawns with scallops in a spicy tomato, coriander and garlic sauce.

Arriving for dinner on foot, we were not so much welcomed on the steps, as challenged before we could cross the threshold. Having validated our credentials, we were led through to the pleasant bar.

After some time, our purpose of sitting in the bar was acknowledged. From the extensive drinks and cocktail list, Mrs A's rum punch was quite good, while my choice of locally brewed beer was not available.

Hoping for better things, as Sandpiper prides itself on its restaurant, and after a recommendation, we were seated for dinner.

The restaurant design is quirky in that the tables around the edges of the room face inwards, spectator-style, and the central tables are lit by spotlights from the high ceiling.

The poached lobster with noodles and linguini with chicken liver starters were excellent, served with warm bread, balsamic/oil and butter. Mrs A's shrimp curry lived up to expectations, and the sides of spinach and truffle mac pie were perfectly cooked.

The freshly grilled salmon I ordered as my main course was raw.

Now everyone has a bad day, but seeing the uneaten food prompted no enquiry from the uniformly unhappy-looking waiting staff. I was asked if everything was alright as my plate was cleared, and agreed with my waitress the fish was raw.

Declining desert or coffee, the bill as presented included the raw salmon, which I politely declined to pay for. It fell to one of the juniors to return with this message to Maitre'd central. Without commiseration from the M'd, the junior server kindly refashioned the bill which we paid and departed.

We started with sunset cocktails at Harolds Bar on the beach (a Harolds Smile & a Classic Rum Punch). A lovely view and delightful drinks in a relaxed beachfront area.
Went into the other bar, adjacent to the restaurant, and awaited an escort to our table. Cushy rattan chairs, crisp cotton pillows, beach elegant decor. Our order was taken there after which we were seated in the formal dining room. White linens, ceiling fans, centerpieces of candlelight with sea glass on sand in a glass hurricane lantern.
Our server, Tina, was extremely attentive, gracious and hospitable significantly adding to the pleasure of this outstanding meal. The bread basket selection included yummy sundried tomato bread and great flat bread. The food was EXCEPTIONAL!!! Fish, meats, duck... a wonderful selection from which to choose. We selected Ceviche with scallops, entrees of king fish, with fantastic side of spinach, truffle mac n cheese and asparagus. Beautiful presentation, excellent sauces, all tasted as good as they looked! This meal was on of the top 2 in Barbados. (We also love The Fish Pot, Lone Star and Cliff Beach Club.)
This is a formal restaurant, the staff is gracious and most professional. Live music included male and female vocalists who the guests truly enjoyed. Really lovely evening, world class service and exceptional food! We will absolutely return!! Reservations required $$$$

Had a superb meal at the Sandpiper during our visit over the New Year period. We had not been for a couple of years as the last time we went the food was only average and the staff were less than welcoming.
Pleased we gave it another try as this year the food was excellent and the service in the restaurant was exemplary. As always the restaurant books really good singers for evening entertainment.

Only complaint was the lack of attention by bar staff. On arrival we sat down and had to wait over 10 minutes before someone came over to take drinks order. We were not served 'nibbles' even though other tables had them and (am I being too picky?) our table candle was not lit.

The food and the restaurant service made up for any misgivings we may have had.

We ate at Sandpiper twice during our recent holiday to Barbados. The restaurant did not disappoint. The fish is particularly fresh and well cooked. We did feel that there were rather too many waiting staff as at one point we had six waiters around our table, but they were only trying to he helpful. The food was delicious and everyone was very friendly.
