This place has awesome multiple stores containing beautiful locally crafted items ranging from Clay coasters to beautifully glass handpainted Christmas and decorative bulbs. They have everything that you can ask for, even locally made leather sandals and beautiful clothing. There's not a lot of foot traffic as it is a little bit hard to get to. I took a cab from the Hilton and my cabdriver was awesome and she walked around with me. She is a cabdriver for the Hilton. They really should advertise this place more, or offer rides in groups from the hotels.

We visited the Pelican Craft Centre expecting lots of local artisan/craft shops but were very disappointed. Several shops were closed, one told us to come back later as they were not open yet (11.30am) and there wasn't even anywhere to get the kids something to eat.

While we were there in low season it was very disappointing.

Admittedly we arrived before lunch on a Monday in June, but it was disappointing to see how this once-vital focal point of local artisans has declined, with some shops vacant and others not open. For me, this is still a must-visit to pick up cheap local straw woven trivets and to visit the Royal Barbados Cigar Company, buying a box for $69 that will cost $110 at the airport or downtown (personally priced them at both locations). The man who used to create wonderful art pieces in wrought iron has, unfortunately, died recently and his store has now closed. Others that once dealt in aquatic souvenirs, like shells and taxidermy flying fish, have also closed. Since Henderson Reece moved his batik studio to Edgehill (HP Batik), there is no excellent art studio either. There are still various craft stores, the goods are more genuinely Bajan than at some other larger locations elsewhere, and there is still a food option, but the vibrant days of Pelican Village are seemingly gone, or perhaps it is more active during the winter cruise-ship season?

A definite waste of time. Thats why there are no tourists there. Place is deserted ( may be because no cruise ship in the port). Didn't see any crystal shops and two were closed at mid day when we went. Prices of many art predecessor are hiked up for tourists and you can get them cheaper in down town Bridgetown.
Very dissapointing.

The pelican island craft center in its day might have been something but half the shops are empty and they have added thrift shops. Some of the art work was outrageously priced. We paid for a tour not knowing these few craft shops were across the street from the port entrance and we could have walked to it ourselves and seen the three or,four only craft stores. Waste of money.
