We visited this property from November 7-13, 2018 for our 1 year wedding anniversary.

At price per night, it is almost robbery to have people stay at this hotel. The positive part, the service was GREAT except the beach staff, it is as if we were bothering them to place an order. One young man(his name is long and hyphenated) was so rude that my husband decided to get up and go directly to the bar. Also, we had a cliffside room and the view was awesome. That's where the quality ends at this place.
entire property needs updating, terribly, or the price needs to be reduced. This is NOT 5 start accommodations, you can see cracked walls, chipped paints and loud noises due to older AC units and dingy doors separating the rooms. The accommodations are DINGY and in some places, you get the odor that accompanies a property of this age.
The food? The breakfast buffet was good and probably the only reason why we didn't starve. Not because of how expensive the food was but how "blah" it was especially given the price. The restaurant menus were standard and the food was poorly prepared.

Finally, guests are allowed to smoke anywhere on the property. As a pregnant woman(there are pregnant women vacationing all over the island for the obvious reasons) I found this to be so frustrating. Needless to say, I will not be back!

Looked at 5 different resort hotels on the island in this price range. Am extremely happy with the choice to stay at The Reefs. As the title says it was quality from start to finish.
The location is awesome on the south shore with both sunrise and sunset. The beach and pools sitting 75 feet above the ocean are stunningly beautiful. The condition and amenities of the hotel equal anything - anywhere in the world we've stayed. The restaurants serve the gamut from a great breakfast buffet to a midday beach nosh to an elegant dinner. The vibe is casual throughout and certainly not as stuffy as Bermuda has a reputation for.
All these may be great reasons to visit but the biggest incentive I have to return was the staff. They are personable, cheerful, helpful and make a point of not only remembering your name but your favorites, your routine, and previous requests. This is a sign of hiring the right people and then training them in the art of hospitality and service.
One tip for those looking to book - Poolside rooms are very nice however next time I'll book a cliffside room for a sense of quiet and solitude. While The Reefs is a great hotel for a relaxing vacay, they can't account for some of their guests who think they're in Cancun on spring break.

Room Tip: Book a cliffside room .. pool side rooms get hot tub traffic who forget they're sharing the property with other guests

Great view! Great lunch time food! Do not need to be a guest to dine at the Reefs. After lunch there is a spot further down the walkway to sit and view the swimming area and to look out onto the ocean. Great view for pictures.

My wife and I had booked Junior Suite at a cost of around $550 per night including breakfast....this I think is the most important thing to remember when I write my review.

All in all the hotel location and staff could not have have been much better, the courtesy shown by all staff including being addressed by our names was most impressive. We stayed in 329, a cliff-side room not a junior suite, more about that later.

The bathroom had a double vanity and large walk in shower, all modern and recent I would of thought. The only wardrobe was in the bathroom and very small. No way near enough hanging space for my wife’s clothes, let alone mine. It also housed and iron/board plus a coffee maker. The coffee machine was almost impossible to fill with water whilst in the cupboard, and although four pods of coffee were replenished daily, only two milks/sugar packs were left.

The bedroom was large with an impressive west facing view. The room looked a wee bit tired, but was perfectly adequate. The bedding, sheets, mattress etc were clean and very comfortable. The balcony in our room was tiny and although west facing lacked very little sun, even at the end of the day. The TV was medium sized and had a few quality channels and a lot of dross. Our room overlooked the stairs down to the beach and Coconuts (beach bar/restaurant). This was convenient in some ways but noisy late at night when people were returning to their rooms, with a bit of alcohol in them. The other slight irritation were the air conditioning units beneath us, they did rumble on a bit. A sensible sized fridge (for a hotel) was in the room for your own drinks if required, an ice-machine and soft drink vending machine a short walk from our room. Our room had a ceiling fan and air-con unit. To complete the location spec, the gym only a stones throw away. Please note most of the resort requires the use of steps, so you do need to be reasonably able for sure.

Food. Breakfast was included in our package or was available for an additional $25 plus 17% gratuity. The meal plan (MAP) for evening dinner $50 plus gratuity. This must be booked for a minimum of three nights. All in all the dinner plan was reasonable value (for Bermuda) and provided a three course dinner at Coconuts or Aqua Terra. The food was certainly good but nothing really to ‘write home about’ The beach BBQ night was at best average, with luke warm food. Drinks were certainly at the higher end of the $$$ scale. I think breakfast was good, you could order from a limited menu and/or use the buffet. The juices tasted very watered down and were certainly not high end. The staff however were always delightful and cheerful at breakfast!

Beach. In a word stunning. Yes it’s not massive but the boats, snorkelling equipment, towels etc are available free of charge. Whilst we were there, no silly sun-bed hogging with towels, good to see! The pool area was at best adequate, small but why use that when you have the beach.

Location. The Reefs is on the South Road, it’s where most of the best beaches are, however there is very little within walking distance of the hotel. Walking anywhere is not great cause there is no pavement (sidewalk for my US friends). There is a bar/restaurant just up the road (Henry VIII) which is ok...The Lighthouse is a long walk, great views from the top and a restaurant there. You need to be fit and able to get to the top! There is a bus stop right opposite the hotel with a frequent bus service in both directions. It’s around $9 return per person to Hamilton. We used it once to go over and have a few drinks plus a great curry at Ruby Murray’s. We also hired a scooter for the duration of our holiday from the bike rental place, also directly opposite the hotel. It was great travelling the length of the Island and seeing all the sights. I would recommend it, I felt very safe, but we were advised that thefts could happen, so keep your belongings close and the bike locked at all times. There really are some lovely beaches/landscapes to see on such a small group of islands. One other word of caution is some of the roads are quite exposed so if it’s windy beware!

It was not long before we left that we discovered that we were not in the right room (the room we booked) On checkout there was an overcharge for the MAP and were being charged the incorrect room price. Within a few days of returning home, a couple of emails and a phone call, all excess fees were refunded with a sincere apology and a generous gesture of goodwill, without asking. The staff again...brilliant!

Finals points. The hotel taxi to the airport is $60 each way, the weather was near perfect (small amount of rain/clouds in our week), the sea was warm enough. Supermarkets around....be prepared to pay close to $4 for a litre of tonic water. Yes everything is expensive on the Island.

Hotel Summary. The Reefs is a very good boutique hotel and there really is not many better locations. The staff and service levels were very good. My big problem is the price, our room was was apparently a very good discounted rate, for $550 a night the food was not ‘right up there’ and the room lacking a wee bit. The island is stunning and I believe The Reef’s one of the better hotels. If you are eating and drinking all day long then be prepared for a $750 bill per day easily.

This is more expensive or on par with London, NY, Dubai (cities I’ve visited) and way more expensive than the most stunning resort in Europe, namely the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Yes if you are happy with the price and don’t compare it with 5* resorts around the world, then this is the place for you.

Everything here was so beautiful! We had a cliffside room overlooking the beach with an amazing view. The beach was perfect - uncrowded, at least in late October, with crystal clear aqua water and soft sand. The pool and hot tub were also wonderful. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, but the balcony and view were by far the highlight. We ate dinner at Aqua Terra (on top of the cliff with a view) and lunch at Coconuts (on the beach with a view of the water and rocks). Both were good in terms of food, not extraordinary, but service and atmosphere were great. The hotel is walking distance from just a few other places (Henry VIII pub and the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse), so we walked there and took buses elsewhere. Our room included breakfast at Aqua Terra, which was delicious - a buffet including all sorts of cooked breakfasts, even omelets made to order, as well as muffins, bagels and fruit.

Room Tip: Our cliffside room had an amazing view!
