“Certainly a nice property pricey as expected.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2012

Take a taxi from the airport about $40 and always good. Hotel charges $75 for same service. Don't think I would risk the shuttle and stop at multiple properties. The hotel is very nice of course, the room we had 217 was a basic Fairmont room and was very nicely updated, clean and modern with gorgeous bathroom and furnishings. Wifi was fantastic, new flat screen TV was just OK with channel selection and poor reception but not a big deal for us. Our view was over the large Windows restaurant with partial ocean view and sound in the distance, again just fine. We paid $129 on the Travelzoo special was really was a fantastic rate. Be sure to join the President's Club and get free wifi saves about $20/day. Other discounts with PC as well but didn't get that far. The outdoor pool is fantastic, lots of kids with small water slide, heated to about 90F was really nice swimming. Hot tub was very hot but nice. The beach is fantastic, they were running on bare bones staff but the restaurant was open serving boxed sandwiches and drinks, low season. Ocean was very nice for March, cool and swimmable. Continental buffet in Windows was about $25/person but very nice breakfast, great selection and dining room. Nabbed a cookie and a piece of fruit for lunch - shhh don't tell the hotel!
Of course everything is expensive, it's Bermuda, but really $40/person to swim in their indoor pool??? Really!!! OK we didn't try it so maybe it's worth it but somehow I really don't think so - you can tell us if you do it. We rented a scooter for $50/day at Oceana Scooters, call them they will pick you up at the hotel, very nice people. Saved 100's over calling taxi's for every move. You really can't go anywhere within walking distance except Henry VIII and Gibbs Lighthouse to eat or do. We will go back but only when we can get a similar good rate.
All the staff at the hotel is very friendly and courteous, much like the rest of Bermuda!

Room Tip: The Cellar is the disco located on the backside left wing of the hotel, you can't hear the disco...

Thank you for your detailed review, it will provide great context to other people looking to visit The Fairmont Southampton. It sounds like you had a lovely room and got to take advantage of a great sale to get an amazing rate. I would just like to clarify a few issues that you raise in your review. The Resort Pool (outdoors) is certainly lots of fun and a great way to relax. Our Spa Pool (indoors) is exclusively for the Willow Stream Spa customers during the day- it is part of a tranquil and relaxing sanctuary to enhance the spa experience. Although you can pay $39/day to access it and the other spa facilities, it is open and free to all guests after 6:30 PM until midnight for general use.

Renting a bike is a great, authentically local experience and there is a bike-rental facility on-property. Another option for getting around is our complimentary ferry, which takes you on a scenic cruise from The Fairmont Southampton to The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, where you can depart and explore Hamilton, Bermuda's city centre. For those weary of traveling by scooters, the Bermuda public bus system is safe and inexpensive.

Other than that, it sounds like you experienced exceptional service from the Fairmont Southampton staff and had a great visit. We hope to welcome you back to Bermuda again soon, and that you will stay with us at The Fairmont Southampton.

The Fairmont Southampton hotel in Bermuda is second to none. The quality of the rooms, the staff and the food served in the restaurants is outstanding. Everything you might want to do in Bermuda can be easily accessed via shuttle, local bus, and/or water ferry. I always feel like a V.I.P. when I choose a Faimont hotel. However, bring plenty of cash! Things are more expensive in Bermuda anyway but, at the Fairmont, you pay a premium price. Watch that automatic 17% gratuity. The hotel charges it even at the pool. Remember to bring all amenities you might need with you (sunscreen, medications, bandaids, hairspray, etc.) as all of these will set you back a pretty penny if you need to purchase them onsite.

The hotel is lovely. The room is spacious, walk-in closet, but off-season only one or two restaurants open each night. Without ability to rent a car, depend on buses and taxis to get off-premise. Breakfast at hotel when not on a deeply-discounted package is very expensive and elaborate. We tried to order lunch at the pool and it was impossible to get the one person on duty attention. He was too busy taking drink orders. Ended ordering lunch in lobby restaurant and different menu and busy with travelers coming in and checking out.
All the staff was very attentive. Getting around Bermuda from the hotel is very simple, but time consuming. Unless deeply discounted would not stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor to get a good view

Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor. We are glad that you enjoyed the facilities and that you found your room to your liking. During the off-season this year, we have had 4 outlets open, at least 2 per evening for dinner, as well as in-room dining. We apologize if none of these were to your liking. It sounds like your experience at the pool was an issue of poor service, and we apologize for this anomaly in our normally speedy and efficient operations. It sounds like the rest of the service during your stay was up-to-par.

Getting around Bermuda can be slow, but due to the small island-nature, the speed limit here is 35 kph! Since it is such a small place, however, nothing is more than an hour away and there are lots of great views and scenes to discover along the way- whether you travel by taxi, bus, or rented scooter. The best transportation mode, however, is our free ferry shuttle that takes you over to The Fairmont Hamilton Princess- beautiful ocean views and a fun boat ride into Bermuda's city-centre.

Thank you again for your review, and we hope that you will reconsider your position and give The Fairmont Southampton another shot in the future.

I recently went with a friend on a four day, three night stay in Bermuda. We arrived at the hotel and were checked in efficiently. Our room was spacious with two large comfortable beds, a walk in closet with dresser, a safe (albeit a bit high up and hard to reach) and two sinks with separate bathroom facilities. We were located in a fairly quiet area of the hotel and the only disturbances to our sleep were the early morning delivery trucks which beeped as they backed up under our room. The room was clean. It was not always looked after as one would expect in a higher end hotel. Our shampoo, soaps, toilet paper etc. were not replaced and the room garbage was once left unemptied.

The hotel is on a hill and there are trolleys to transport people to the beach, to the bus lines and to some restaurants. I cannot recommend this facility for handicapped individuals with any kind of mobility issues.

We found the hotel staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. In fact, everyone we met in Bermuda was fantastic and extremely friendly. Something to keep in mind is that if you are told it's a "five minute walk", it's more than likely a 15 or 20 minute walk involving stairs and/or hill climbing.

We purchased a 3 day bus pass from the concierge for $28. It was good for unlimited bus and ferry boat transportation. This is a great way to get around if you don't wish to drive a moped on the left side of very narrow, winding and hilly roads.Taxis can get costly and rental cars are not available in Bermuda. We also took a one way trip to Hamilton on the free hotel ferry, a slow leisurely ride, worth it for the scenery. Hamilton is central and buses and ferries can be easily accessed to get around all of Bermuda.

The concierge will make restaurant and other reservations. Although it was not the busy season, reservations are generally needed for evening meals. My suggestion for clothing is cruise ship attire. In other words, something along the dressier side. Before heading out for lunch, check the dining times of your destination. We went to the lighthouse and discovered the restaurant closed at 2 p.m. Fortunately, we were served delicious food at the Bacci restaurant on our "trek" back toward the hotel.

The Jasmine hotel lounge was a good place for drinks and food. We enjoyed some appetizers, drinks and dessert and everything was tasty. In the evening, there was a musical trio playing. There is a 17% gratuity automatically added to your food and drink bill throughout the hotel. I felt that the lounge service was not always consistent since staff knew they'd receive at least that amount. We enjoyed breakfast and tried "a la carte" one day and the buffet the next. The buffet was far better value and included a great variety of hot and cold food including my favourite, smoked salmon. The servers in the morning were exceptional.

The indoor pool is only open to guests who are using the spa during day time hours. It is available to everyone in the evenings. The outdoor pool and hot tub area are quite nice. There seemed to be some louder teens and children using the facility on the weekend. This made the area a little less than peaceful.

Our flight was in the evening and we were unable to get late checkout. The bellman stored our luggage and we were offered a room to change clothes had it become necessary. Transfers to the airport can be booked through the concierge for $15 per person. We were fortunate however, that our transportation and all hotel/tourist taxes were included in our Westjet vacation package.

First of all, thank you so much for providing such a detailed review and also all of your fun photographs. They are a good illustration of the property. It sounds like you liked your room, but we are disappointed that housekeeping did not live up to the Fairmont standard. The friendliness you experienced from the staff is heartening, and we are glad that you found the concierge helpful. It sounds like you had a great stay, and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Fairmont Southampton again for another visit soon! Thank you again for your review!

We just got back from 4 nights at the Fairmont Southampton. What a fabulous experience! Previously we had cruised to Bermuda, but this was our first land stay. We had a room on the 4th floor with a wrap-around balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was stupendous. We had a very comfortable king size bed, double sink, bathrobes, free internet as members of the Fairmont President's Club. The facilities at the hotel are top-notch. The concierges were extremely helpful in making dinner reservations and explaining the Bermuda bus system. Since it was off-season, only Waterlot and Bacci were open. We ate at each one twice. Waterlot is especially fantastic. I really recommend the "Bacon and Eggs" appetizer! We were on the MAP, which meant that breakfast and dinner were included. This was very cost-effective. The staff all remembered our names and greeted us at every turn. We walked over to the Gibbs Hill lighthouse and climbed to the top, where we were able to view humpback whales! The hotel trolley is very easy to use to get to the beach and to get to Waterlot and take the ferry to Hamilton. The hotel will sell you tokens for the Bermuda bus lines. Cash is not accepted on the buses. You can walk along the south shore beaches from access through a gate near the Southampton private beach. The view is magnificent.
The hotel recommends that you take the number 8 bus which takes you to Waterlot. The hotel trolley can be summoned (via phone) to take you up the hill to the hotel. If you return via bus #7 which runs along the south shore, you have to either walk up the hill to the hotel from the bus stop, or walk over to the beach to get the trolley. Either way, it is not a big deal.If you visit the Royal Naval Dockyard, it is definitely worth the price of admission to the Bermuda Maritime Museum which gives you access to much of the grounds of the fort, to the ramparts and to the Dolphin Quest. Do not miss the free ferry between the two Fairmont hotels, for the ride and view, if nothing else!

Room Tip: Join the Fairmont Presidents Club in advance and get free wiFi in your room.

Thank you so much for your glowing review of The Fairmont Southampton! It is wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed your land-based Bermuda experience. The wrap-around balconies are amazing, it is such an amazing view! We will pass along your compliments to the Concierge & Waterlot Inn teams. Seeing humpback whales is such an incredible experience, very few get to do that, I am sure it made your trip very memorable.

Just to clarify for readers of this review, the free trolleys run from the hotel to The Waterlot Inn & the beach. There is a public bus stop next to The Waterlot Inn, where you can take a number 8 bus to the Royal Naval Dockyard, home of the Maritime Museum & Dolphin Quest. You can also return (or depart) on the number 7 bus to get a different view of scenery which leaves from a bus stop near the beach. Our complimentary ferry takes you into Hamilton.

Thank you again for such a lovely review, and we hope that you will visit The Fairmont Southampton again soon!
