Nice place to have a wander around and soak up the local atmosphere. There are some old fashioned punishments, such as stocks and a ducking stool - the first one I had ever seen on my travels. Local taxis congregate here.

We started here at the information center to plan our stay. We took the $12 walking tour which gave us the historical foundation of the town. The guide is a long time resident of St. George which added a personal touch to the tour After the tour we were able to see the town crier's explanation of the dunking stool, complete with demonstration.
.If you wish to go to the Dockyards purchase 2 tokens at $4.50 each at the post office off of Water Street which will cover the roundtrip ferry fare from St. George .Unless you plan to use buses in the same day that is cheaper than the $19 all day pass. There are so many historical sites in St. Georges. We chose the Mitchel house to view the printing press but also was interested in the architecture and history of the home. The guide was quite pleasant and answered all our questions..

There is an information booth, restaurants, rest rooms, ice cream and coffee shops nearby. A comfortable place to sit and plan your day. The people are very friendly and helpful, it is clean as a whistle and there are lots of quaint little shops to browse in.

Just arrived in town for a week. Went down to the square to visit the visitor center. Arrived just in time for the dunking of the town gossip. She was dragged out to the dunking chair and placed over the water, all the while telling the crowd of the goings on of the local folks. After repeated requests to repent her wicked ways and not getting a positive response, she was dunked into the harbor. After five or six requests to repent followed by a refusal and a dunking she repented and was brought to dry land. There was a good crowd of people observing the goings on as well as helping.
