“Don't Understand Why People Like This Place...”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

Where to start? Aruba seems chock full of men who wish they were Tony Soprano and the women who love them…

Nothing special about the rooms…they are spacious and clean, but calling a room “ocean view” on the ground floor is simply a lie, especially when the view of the beach is obscured by 10 foot tall fescue.

Hotel staff do not care…had an iguana get into the room and asked for help removing it. A staff member came about an hour later, long after I had gotten rid of the lizard, and then didn’t understand me when I told him that the iguana was gone.

The adjacent Marriot resort seems a bit worse for wear…the Hyatt down the street is much nicer.

Food and drinks were just OK, but extremely overpriced…but that seems to be the general theme of Aruba. Why anyone would come here over St. Martin, St. Thomas or any other island is beyond me. But if you do decide to come here, if you know what’s good for you, stay at the Hyatt.

The accommodations at the Ocean Club were great - very nicely furnished living room, dining area, full kitchen and master bedroom. We loved the second floor location (even though I originally requested a higher floor) because we had a distant view of the Caribbean as well as the pool waterfall and we could easily come and go from the beach using the staircase at the end of the hall - so much more convenient than using the lobby elevators all of the time! All of the Marriott employees were super friendly and helpful - especially the front desk, concierge, bellmen, towel ladies and beach employees who had a magic touch securing the towels on the chairs! Very interesting process to reserve the beach palapas - either rent them ahead of time for $10 or $15 (depending on location) or arrive at the towel hut way before 7am to get in line for a free palapa that day. This line is a very orderly process with most people very talkative and friendly and is actually a nice way to start your day (if you don't mind getting up in the dark!)
It was nice of the Marriott to provide the basics like TP and paper towels, but would have been even nicer if they were a little better quality. And for any readers looking to book the Ocean Club next Feb. during President's Week, know that it is winter break for several school systems in the Northeast and therefore extremely crowded and loud. But the Surf Club next door was even more crowded and loud so we were very glad we chose the Ocean Club!

Room Tip: Liked the second floor - had a nice view plus the ability to come and go from the beach via stairs.

Everything was perfect. We had a one bedroom, which had its own sitting area full size kitchen bathroom two balconys and a jacuzzi tub in the bedroom. There was an activity everynight. The boat trips were ok but the food was not good. We went to a supermarket and bought food and cooked some nights. The average meal was for two was about 100 a night with drinks. It as expensive but worth it. All the resorts are right on the beach which is nice . Everyone was very friendly spoke English and took american money. The hotel has a nice pool swim up bar and resturants inside, dinner on the beach and a casino workout room. would go back with the family. The Surf club is better for kids. Very clean rooms daily maid service. can rent dvd's.

We stayed at the Mariott Ocean Club for 7 days and loved it! We had a 1 bedroom on floor #4, room 5467. Not much of a view, but we could see the ocean... The room was spacious, clean and provided everything we needed (except salt & pepper!) But, we took care of that. Really, everything else was great and we will stay there again.
The employees at the Ocean Club are all very helpful and kind. Never had any problem with anyone. They have a great helpful attitude and it made our stay, just that much better!!
Just FYI......you cannot use the pools at the other Marriott buildings (the Surf Club or the Marriott Resort) we found out the hard way!! After about 30 minutes at the adult pool area at the Marriott resort, we were politely asked to leave since we were staying at the Ocean Club. They were really nice about it, but you feel embarassed because everyone knows why you are leaving, right after the Activities Manager stops to have a conversation with you. But, he was very professional and nice about it. We had just been told that we could use any of the pool areas....which is not true.
We bought some food at the IGA, so we cooked several meals in our room, which was convenient. We ate at the Champions Grill twice and it was very good. The pizza from the pool bar at the Surf Club was nothing great. The pastries and ice cream at the little shop in the lobby were always good, also.
We visited the Stellaris Casino several nights and never did too well. It was fun, but the machines were tight. Still enjoyed the time at the casino, though.
All in all, the clean, large room was a pleasure and we will return to the Ocean Club.
If there is a drawback, it is the 10am check-out time. Our flight was not until after 4pm, so we had a lot of time to just sit and wait.
We recommend the Marriott Ocean Club as a great vacation choice!

I'll start by saying my family has been staying at the Marriott Ocean Club in Aruba for over a decade as time share owners, but I'm reviewing this as a newly engaged man taking my fiancee out of the country for the first time.

The service at the Marriott Ocean Club is phenomenal. No exaggeration. They go above and beyond to help you. We arrived before our scheduled check-in time and the staff got us into our room as quickly as they could (the room was being cleaned). The first night my fiancee was having some serious ear pain problems due to travelling with a cold. As the stores in the hotel were closed, they arranged a security guard to take me to a nearby pharmacy. He was incredible nice and made me feel very comfortable driving around a foreign country at night during Halloween.

The rooms in this hotel are large and beautiful. We were on the third floor, about 3 rooms from the end. We were right above the adult/quiet pool. It was a perfect view without being on the very ends facing the ocean. Everything in our room was great and the cleaning crew gave us our complimentary cleaning on Wednesday, which was perfect timing for our week-long vacation.

We reserved a beach hut a day before we wanted to be on the beach and were able to get one in the front row. We spent the whole day alternating water and shade and even booked a para-sailing trip spur of the moment. We were waited on by very friendly wait staff who brought us a couple six-packs of Balashis and some sandwiches.

The only negative for us about the hotel is the price of food and drink. Our way around this is to hire a cab to drive us to a nearby grocery store, wait for us and drive us back with enough food for the week. There is also a FANTASTIC bar just past the Surf Club that usually has live music. Beers there are $2-$3 (50% cheaper than the hotel) and the ambiance is very fun, whether you want to party and dance, or just drink and socialize at the bar.

Marriott Ocean Club is spectacular. We won't be staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: The higher up and the closer to the ends of the "U", the better. You also want to be on t...
