This restaurant was highly recommended by the hotel staff and they were on point! Best ceviche I've had....very authentic flavors (coming from a Peruvian). They also had excellent salchi papas and delicious anticuchos. Fried fish was one of the best we had in the island. The place is very homey however the food is EXCELLENT!

This restaurant we visit basically each week once, either in the weekend or during the week for lunch. Great Peruvian food, nice service and the staff is very friendly! I would recommend the fried calamari, ceviche and oysters as appetizers and for the food the chicken or beef "saltado" chicken or beef stew with fries, onions and tomatoes! Very rich in taste! As dessert I would recommend the passion fruit cheesecake. Be sure to try their natural juice of passion fruit, it's wonderful!

the place is sort of downtown Oranjestad but not in a great area
inside no ambience at all
the food was mostly rice with something fried on top not very tasty
the ceviche was too fishy , no wine that i can drink
we had some local Peruvian drink i think was called Pisco sour it was OK a bit too much sugar for my taste

A Peruvian waiter at our resort recommend El Chalan and we were not disappointed. It's a little out of the way (but the cab fare was the same as to any place downtown), but worth the trip. The atmosphere is very casual, and the service was excellent and the food was great. It felt like a neighborhood spot chiefly visited by locals. I had the Lomo Saltado, which is a Peruvian specialty - strips of steak with tomatoes and onions in a soy sauce. Usually this comes with french fries and rice, but I had the tacu (a rice and beans mash) instead which was unique and excellent. My wife had a vegetable fried rice which she loved, washed down with a great pisco sour. This was our first try at Peruvian food and we will definitely try it again. This place is well worth seeking out, particularly if you are bored with the typical Aruban restaurants.
