The staff at Matthews are very friendly and helpful. The drinks are unique and the food delicious. We had breakfast and dinner here. The portions were plentiful and tasty. Rib night was enjoyed by my husband. I had filet mignon that was amazing.

Another wonderful meal at Matthews. The staff is great and very accommodating. Even with a huge menu they adjusted a couple of things to please the vegetarians in our group. The fish was fantastic. Kids menu is large and varied and reasonable. The setting is one of the best in Aruba. A must try when visiting Aruba. Also accommodating to allergies.

This restaurant is located directly on a very small beach, and is part of a timeshare hotel property. The setting itself is very elegant (in an Aruba sort of way - feel free to wear your shorts and sandals). Staff is dressed up, attractive decor, really the setting is amazing and you can hear the gentle surf from anywhere in the open air premise.

We arrived with out a reservation (only 1/2 of the tables were occupied) and the manager wrote our name down and said “no problem, give me just a few minutes”. We returned in a few minutes and a different person look incredulous that we could possibly be accommodated. Then the manager returned and said “Thank you for waiting, please follow me your table is ready” (which of course it was already since the place was 1/2 full). Incidentally, only 1 party arrived after us, and we were a full 90 minutes before their closing time, so I never understood this).

Waiter promptly brought us drinks and took our orders. He never told us about their special (we noticed it on a chalkboard when we left). And he only returned to ask if we wanted dessert (someone else brought the food). Since the place wasn’t busy, we would have appreciated a couple of check ins and maybe a drink reorder? Tip as automatically on the bill when it came, and I think the service reflected the guaranteed tip.

The food itself is the main issue however; nothing was particularly good (except the kids filet mignon). Nothing was awful - it was all edible and attractively plated, just not that good.

So with a top notch location, really good ambiance and such an attempt at professionalism, why can’t they get the food up to the same level and knock it out of the park?

Anyway, I give it 3 stars. If the service was improved they would get a 4 even without the food because the ambience was excellent. And if they fix the food, this could be amazing.

But, it was still Aruba, we did eat, and nothing was terrible. Just, as the 3 stars indicates, average.

If you are staying anywhere on or near Eagle Beach in aruba you must take a walk up the beach to this friendly joint! Beautiful views of the water - excellent staff - very good menu - two happy hours: one from 12-1 and the other from four to six daily - they serve little nacho style chips and cheese sauce during this time which is a nice touch!
The drinks are delicious and generous
The lunch menu is good - the Caesar wrap and fries are great
A very good burger also!
This is a hidden gem!

The food was good but the view was absolutely breathtaking. There were 2 couples with our party each getting something different off the menu. Nothing disappointed us. I recommend the restaurant especially in the evening for a sunset mill.
