This is a small B&B with great views of the inlet and hills. The sunset from in front of the lodgings was fantastic. The local ferry crosses the inlet just along the street from the lodgings. Near by is an old Courthouse ( now the library), and jail. There is a shop for groceries near by, a hotel, take away, and chip shop.

You will need to look no further for an evening meal than by booking with the owners ( Jon and Dorothy). You must book in advance as we are talking about good, home cooking. Dorothy phoned on the day to ask re. our choice of menu. We had a lovely chicken with plum/brandy sauce and dessert ( 2 courses for 2 at $40 per head). Jon has some excellent wines- I can recommend his pinot gris ( $35), one of the best I've had in our 5 trips to New Zealand.

We were made very welcome, Jon and Dorothy are good hosts. We ate with them. There is a guest snug/sitting room, tea and coffee are free and a little kitchenette. The bedroom was en suite and furnished to a high standard. Cost per night was $130 for us as a couple using the bedroom with the four poster bed.

There is a choice of breakfasts $20 each. We enjoyed a 'continental' breakfast with a full fruit platter, muesli , yoghurt, toast ( the marmalade was superb!), decent coffee and tea.

We had seen the Kauri forest in the afternoon and found The Postmasters Lodgings ideally placed for a scenic stop overnight. Our hosts were able to help us plan the next day of activity ( Wairere Boulders) and Kerikeri.

Room Tip: Any that are available! You must book in advance as this is a small, family type of establishment, where the service is bespoke.

My friend and I stopped over one night on the way to 90 mile beach on a motorcycle adventure ride. What a great place to stay John organized off street parking for the bikes.
Had a couple of beers at the pub across the road and great fish and chips...........
John and Dorothy were very help full and got a nice breakfast ready early for us to catch the car ferry..........
Would recommend and stay again when next at Rawene
Thanks Paul & Rodney

We found this place last minute after another place let us down. So glad we did! John and Dorothy were convivial and welcoming hosts, the house is splendidly decorated, and when you know that a lot of the lighting and other fittings and furnishings were created by John, it makes it even more special. We chose to have dinner and breakfast there and the meals were lovingly made by Dorothy. We haven't done a lot of B&Bs together, usually preferring to keep to ourselves... but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay... bring some wine and relax!

Room Tip: We stayed in the front room with the Peacocks! Awesome.
