We decided to do his hike before leaving as we were told that it was unmissable... Unfortunately A photo won't be able to describe the view, the feeling, the "wow" but also the pain and efforts to get to the observation point. The guide recommends 5 hrs return trip and we did in about 4 hr. However you must be warned that this hike is about 8 miles return with very stiff walking and sharp corner. You shouldn't be also afraid of heights as you walk up. This is really high and at some point you only have 5 ft wide path between you, the mountain and a 2000ft cliff!!
But if you don't give up in the middle, the reward is amazing. The view is priceless and very difficult to describe. take a sandwich and water with you and enjoy your lunch on the top. I have got the best photos I have ever taken in my life! You also have a mobile network available at the top... So I couldnt resist calling a friend from the top with a 2500ft cliff next to me and share the excitement! ;o)
ps: you don't need to be a trained hiker for this. This was my first big hike and I did it. Just take food and water with you and a proper pair of shoes! Ah and plan to go to the restroom before climbing!!

Observation Point is typically reached via a four-mile hike up from the floor of Zion Canyon. (It can also be reached by a hike over the mesa from the eastern part of the Park, but very few people take that route.)
Observation Point is about 500 ft higher than Angel's Landing and has a vista over the majority of the Canyon looking south. It is a stunning perspective and well worth the four-mile (one-way) and often quite steep hike.
The hike itself is also wonderful. It begins on the floor of Zion Canyon (at the Weeping Rock spot), climbing via several switchbacks up to the very face of Mt Cable, which then towers at least a thousand feet above you. At that point, it suddenly finds a cleft in the rock between the mountains into a silent chasm, like a holy place. Working its way through this wonderland, it comes out onto the East mesa, which the path climbs for a couple miles over Navajo sandstone, quite steep, with beautiful views of the mesa. Finally, the trail comes on top of the mesa and back into Zion Canyon, leading to Observation Point.
This was one of the high points of our visit to Zion National Park.

We were a little intimidated with Angel's Landing, but we really wanted to climb up a mountain. This hike is a great balance of amazing views!! (2,000ft high!) and not as scary because there is a trail the whole way up. Give yourself a few hours (around 6) round trip, including spending lunch at the top of Observation Point. Definitely worth the trip!

This was one of the most spectacular views we've seen, and probably the best at Zion (it is higher than Angel's Landing).

We got there with a easy-to-moderate 3 mile (1.5-2 hours) hike on the East Mesa Trail. While this trail is not particularly unique, it is an easy, efficient way to get to the amazing Observation Point, and there are some nice lookouts along the way. Plus, it's relatively uncrowded. However, it's about 1 hour to get to from the main Zion park visitor center by car, including some dirt roads (wouldn't do when wet, or at night).

Hiked it several times (we live in the area) and always enjoyed it. Great workout! Fantastic views! I did it even when I was pregnant (though in very good shape, otherwise not recommended).
