We only made it four miles before we hit mud that was, for me, unpassable - it actually sucked my shoe off! But the part we did was beautiful! Hope to go back some day and hike the whole thing.

Trail head is at the east entrance. Best way to get there is too hire a drop off service(we used Zion Outfitters $20 a person). Trail starts with gradual incline on a solid sand and rock based trail. Verticals climb is around 10000 feet with really no hard switch backs. Opens up to the next ridge and you wrap around a large waterfall. Walk along meadows at the top. It was muddy in places after snow melt. The first decent is rough tight and with steep grades. You then enter a not well marked rock area for around a mile. Follow the rock stackers is the best tip I can give you. You have a bit of a climb. You link up an observation trail and it's all down hill past weeping rock into the canyon and Finnish on cement switch backs. Took about 6 hours with breaks

I hiked the East Rim whilst doing the Observation Point hike.

The part of the East Rim trail I was on was lovely with great view at the end on observation point. Mainly in the sun so be prepared.

I am a local and I consider this to be the best trail in Zion National Park. There are some logistical factors to consider if you want to do the entire trail. Using two vehicles, one at trail's head and one at trail's end seems to work the best.
