The Lodge sits in the heart of Sequoia National Park. Great views of the High Sierra mountains. Very good service as they had a shuttle to transport us from place to place. Nice stargazing program. Good location.

We recently returned from a cross-country trip(east to west). We visited the Sequoia’s National Park and stayed at the Wuksachi Lodge. Upon arrival we were assigned a room in the ‘Sequoia Building’. We had no idea the building was situated on a small, steep hill with only sandy (slippery) steps and a “switch back” paved path to get up to the building. Staff offered NO porters or help with our luggage. There were no rolling carts either. To top it off – we were told to empty our vehicle of all items that might attract bears! Really!?!? (You don’t pack lightly on a cross-country trip.) So, we started lugging our stuff up the hill only to find there were rolling carts in the hall. But of course, then we had to climb three flights of stairs to our room. It took an hour to get everything to our room. My husband even ended up helping another older couple with their luggage. (We are in our 60’s) We were fed up so we ended up taking stuff to the car whenever we went out – bears or no bears! The worst thing about all of it is, there was a nicely paved “driveway” right up to the door of the building for housekeeping! I can’t believe they expect aging people who stay at this lodge to go through all of this. That is why I am writing this review – you can’t stay in business by charging people well over $200 a room and then not help them get to it! As we checked out - no one even asked about our stay.

Room tip: Check to make sure how hard it is to get to your room at the Sequoia. And it is NOT luxury!

We deeply apologize for your negative experience. It is our standard to offer every guest, regardless of age, if they would like baggage assistance. We apologize that you were not offered it. I will pass this along to the front desk management to remind our agents to be consistent with our offerings.

The property its self is OK as far as comfort and amenities, we can't comment on value for price as we were there on a Tauck Tour. It was late September so the non air conditioned room was OK with the windows open, might be hot in the summer. WiFi was OK most of the time for email and such. Food in the lodge and service were better than expected.

I left a wireless phone charger at the bedside stand, realized it as soon as the bus departed and called back to the front desk before noon when we had phone service. I was told that the desk was the lost and found and they would watch for it. I told the desk person that I would pay postage to have it returned. I called again late afternoon and a different person told me the room had not been serviced. I called AM and PM the following day and was told nothing was found. I called again a week later, the desk lady said she would go check housekeeping for the charger, I've never heard back.

Compared to the cost of the trip $60 is a small item but it's disappearance says something about the people that work there!

Room tip: Think temperature in the summer!

Thank you for staying with us. We deeply apologize that no one has returned your call. I will forward this on to Carlos, Front Desk Manager; I believe you have already spoken to him. As of today, your charger has not been located. This is not our standard as we have a room set aside just for lost and found items and consistently the housekeepers are bring items to it. To have a guests item not logged into the system is a rare occurrence and should not be interpreted as a culture as it is not. We have very honest and hard working people that live and work on the mountain.

It’s only 6.5 miles from the Giant Forest Museum and 25 miles from Grant Grove. It sits at about 7,000 feet above sea level and about 1,000 feet above the sequoias in the Giant Forest. It was recently built (1999), but it has the style of older national park lodges though the rooms have modern conveniences that most national park lodges don’t like phones and TVs.

We stayed at the lodge for three nights. Service around the lodge was excellent. The folks in the lobby were efficient and helpful with local information. The restaurant and bar staff were equally efficient and helpful. Breakfast was quite good consisting of a choice of Continental or full breakfast buffets. We were not around the lodge for lunch.

Dining options were an outdoor patio, a bar and a typical national park restaurant/menu. At the bar or on the patio, you could order a pizza or anything off the restaurant menu. Pizzas were not available in the restaurant. The restaurant was busy for dinner the three nights we were there. The meals were served in a reasonable amount of time.

The pizzas were quite good as was the dinner menu. However, the dinners themselves were not. The diner service was fine. The presentation of the main courses was fine. The ingredients and preparation of the meals were not good. The pork chop was so overcooked and dry as to be nearly impossible to cut. The chicken was also overcooked and dry. The greens in the main course salad looked and tasted a week old. Stick with the pizza and burgers for dinner until the fare in the restaurant improves.

I guess it depends on what your interests are as to how you rate this lodge. I feel it is overpriced. Both beds in our spacious room had stains on the bedspread. The bed itself was very, very firm and neither my grandson nor I slept well. There is a small frig and coffee pot with 1 pkg of regular coffee. My grandson found candy that had been left by a previous guest on the floor.
They have a small bar near the lobby where lots of folks gathered to unwind from their day. The lobby itself is cozy looking but rather small, there was no where for us to sit and enjoy the fireplace. The bed linens looked old and worn. We were only there for a night and thankful it was only that. I would not choose to stay here again.
