“Start Your Park Visit Here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2012

We come frequently to the park, and this place is always crazily busy with tourists and volunteers helping out. The amount of books, gifts, clothing, and food is beyond what I have ever seen in a national park visitors' center. Be sure to start your park visit there; we stop by every trip even though we know the park inside and out!

“Nice surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2012

This is a great visitors center. Lots of knowledgable people. There is a great museum at the back of the building. Behind the building starts a nature walk that leads to a waterfall-beautiful. Great for kids since it is more of a walk than a hike.

“Great starting point”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 January 2012

This visitor center is staffed by extremely knowledgeable volunteers who have personally hiked many if not all the trails the Smoky Mtn. have to offer. These people can tell you what to see and do, whether a couple hours or days. Free back-country permits are available here if you are planning to camp in the primitive back-country sites. They can give you all the info as to what equipment, footwear and fitness levels appropriate to what you are interested in doing. One last thing, this is the last bathroom stop between Gatlingburg, TN and Cherokee, NC. It is also the only stop between Gatlinburg and the popular Cade's Cove. I stress utilizing it, especially during peak seasons as traffic can be stop and go for MANY miles and take hours.
