Cabins and limited food options

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 June 2024
The cabins are adequate, but could use some repair. It was warm when we arrived and the cabin was hot. On raising the windows, they would not stay open and we had to find appropriate length sticks and rocks to hold them open. There is hot water, but it took a full six minutes of running water to get it warm. There is no a/c, but it is usually cool enough that it is not needed. Dining: There are limited choices. There is a dining room in the lodge building, but you will need a reservation made MONTHS in advance to eat here. We stood in line to get into the deli to find a sign that said, "out of pizza, go to the saloon". On getting to the saloon, we found a line out of the door. By the time we got to the bar, they has also run out of pizza. On checking the general store hours, they had already closed (open 7am to 7pm). The bartender said that they might be delivering some more pizza, but it may be 20 - 30 minutes and could not guarantee that there would be any more. We waited and got lucky after 15 minutes. So, if you don't have reservations, be prepared to have something extra with you, just in case....

Room Tip: If it is hot, bring a fan. Bring some food in the event that they run low.

This is a glorified hostel. We had a room for three people. There was one pillow in the room. We were told that there were not enough pillows for the number of guests. The hairdryer was missing from the wall. The shower gel was 2/3 empty. There was no toilet paper on the roll. It was definitely not worth the value.

Meets the top three criteria; location, location, location. Basic but clean and met our overnight needs. Beds, bathroom, fridge, ceiling fans, heater (not used). About 1.5 miles from North Kaibab trail head. Dining room dinner required reservations. Lunch was average. Deli was uninspiring. General store was moderately stocked connivence store. Awesome patio with spectacular view. I would stay again for the location.

This place is a bit hard to reach but is a hikers paradise. Its more scenic than the South Rim and more rural. The lodge location offers great views and the food is gourmet quality, The Western Cabins offer very comfortable lodging and have a fireplace. All the staff were accommodating and very nice to deal with.
If you are looking for tourism go to the South Rim. For the best Grand Canyon hiking experience the North Rim is the place.

Room tip: Expect cabins, a Lodge Restaurant a Deli, Saloon, Post office, gift shop and a general store about 1 mile away. There is not much more there

This might be the most disappointing hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Pros:

The view is obviously spectacular and the staff were for the most part friendly.

Cons:

I’m not a picky mattress person, but this was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. We legitimately discussed sleeping on the floor and didn’t get much sleep because of it. If your mattress preference is springs sticking into you, you’ll love it here.

Many things were broken in our room. Coffee maker didn’t work, outlets were dead, shower was very visibly moldy.

This hotel is in part run by Aramark. That means the food here is dorm quality at fine dining prices. The food at the main restaurant was so bad, we started driving 30-60 minutes away to get our meals. Also, they ran out of food at the deli/saloon every day we were there. Not an exaggeration; they literally ran out of food.

We certainly weren’t expecting luxury from this hotel, but it was awful. I would encourage a day trip visit to check the view, but lodging here is a big mistake. We heard just about everyone checking out complaining about their stay.

Perfect location! The views from the lodge are gorgeous and well worth staying here for. Also close to some trails.
The rooms are basic but fine. Nothing fancy but the room was sufficient enough.
I liked that there were a few restaurants options.
