The family that lived here a year was a family of 15. My goodness, where did they all fit? This is ONE room. It still boggles my mind that people chose to settle in this valley.

You pass right by this cabin on your way into the park, so pull over for a few minutes and take a look at this late 19th century cabin. It was home to a family of 10 -- yes ten -- for a year. If nothing else, you likely wlll feel better about wherever you're living now.

Just a very old settlers cabin by the road. The story of this family and a photo is posted. We felt glad to know that they moved on after a year, this place would have been a very hard location to make a living or a home.

This cabin is important because it is a small example of what people had to do to survive during this time. The boys slept in the cave, but they did not know any different. The family worked each day for their existence. No welfare payments back in the day. Makes you think about how society has changed. Nice restoration of an important landmark. It is so remote. Family must have been everything.

This cabin is further east of the park. It isn't a long distance and worth the drive. Imagine living in a cabin like this. Look at the rock mountain behind the cabin as that is where the Behunin boys slept. The Fremont River use to be where the road is which was closer to the cabin.
