On arrival,,, thought looks very impressive most imposing hotel in area, glad to say we were not disappointed, staff couldn't be more friendlier, very clean, facilities such as putting and tennis required a bit of maintenance, Food was good for first week then as per normal things begin to get a bit repetitive, i think the selection for vegetarians was very limited they still think salad and chips constitutes a meal. The bar only ever had 1 barman so when busy you could wait up to 15 minutes for a drink which would be my only grumble. would recommend hiring quad bikes on this island it is very safe as all local drivers are aware you are a tourist. I still have 1 more day to go of a 10 night stay while I am writing this and I will be sad to leave.

Room Tip: request a sea view, its a must.

Lovely holiday, beautiful location, great pool area and lovely views from the terrace. Ask for a sea view room. The staff are so friendly and very helpful nothing is too much trouble. The cocktails are great and there is a good variety of food. The hotel runs a free service into town which is great and taxis back aren't very expensive. Ladies one thing I would advise is take a hairdryer the ones in the bathroom take forever and got too hot in your hand to use. Also the beds are very hard but if you ask the staff will provide thick blankets to put under the sheets. Zante town isn't all that lively so if you're looking for dancing and lively bars you'll need to take a taxi into another town. I would go to this hotel again for a chill out holiday in the sun.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

My family and I 18 year old son, 21 year old daughter and wife stayed here for 1 week, we had a lovely chilled time, if this is what you want this is the place, the food was lovely always something to eat, breakfasts were great, bacon mushrooms, eggs fried and omelettes, beans, grilled tomato, etc, even HP sauce. The pool is amazing I spent most of my time in the pool looking at the view to the sea and over the town, how people can complain about this hotel is shocking, it is what it is, peaceful, we went into town a few times and ate in the evening, hired quad bikes and saw the island, recommend Bannana beach, beautiful place, very friendly staff, owners eat with the guests everyday, would go back for another peaceful tranquil chilling break,

Room Tip: Sea view amazing

Just returned from a fabulous holiday at ths hotel, loved everything about it! The rooms are well furnished and clean and it's definitley worth paying extra for a seaview room as the view is stunning. The infinity pool also has stunning views, it's very clean and does not get overcrowded, we were also always able to get sunbeds. We stayed on a half board basis and food was of a reasonable standard, we found the breakfast to be particularly good. Hotel is a little out of the way but this was good for us as it was very peaceful and the hotel runs a free shuttle bus to Zante town and to the beach and taxi prices are very cheap. There is small village within walking distance with a few restaurants / tavernas which have beautiful views over Zante town and food was very good as were the prices. Staff at hotel were friendly and helpful especially Alex who looked after us at Dinner and George who looked after us at breakfast time. The only criticisms I have which were quickly resolved was the overbooking problem the hotel seems to experience, this does need to be sorted out and also wifi didnt work the first couple of days On checkout guests are given a bottle of wine as a thank you from the hotel, this is a very nice touch and with a few little tweaks this hotel would most certainly be 4* plus. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will without a doubt make a return visit as we have had a fantastic holiday!!

Room Tip: Pay for a seaview room as you won't be disappointed

When we went to check in at the Avalon we were told that the hotel was overbooked for the first night and therefore we had no option but to be placed in a hotel nearby. We were clearly disappointed by this as we were looking forward to our stay. After speaking to other guests during our stay we heard of at least 6 couples who had also been moved to another hotel because of the over booking. The hotel blamed our holiday booking company (Expedia), however the other couples that we spoke to had booked with different companies so I find it hard to believe it is the holiday companies fault.

When we returned to the Avalon the next day we were upgraded to a sea view room, however we had a room right at the far end of the hotel overlooking the restaurant and green tarpaulin below the restaurant. This rather obstructed the view. Our balcony also had a large crack in the glass, which did not look very safe.

The hotel appears very grand when you arrive however you soon start to notice the problems. It also appears that the hotel may have run out of money (looks like a building site underneath the restaurant, empty Jacuzzi at the pool area, rusty railings around the pool, flaking paint work in and around the pool).

The wifi throughout our stay did not work at all, not even in the lobby or restaurant areas. I overhead other guests complaining they couldn’t access it so there was clearly something wrong with it. It only started working on the last day, although the strength was weak and only worked in the lobby and restaurant areas, no chance of it working in the room.

The room was adequate. Maid service was everyday, however the maid managed to throw away some of our belongings which were in a plastic bag (not next to the bin!).

We stayed on half board basis. The breakfast was nice although it was frustrating that the fruit juices were only for those guests on an all-inclusive basis. For someone that doesn’t like tea or coffee (that was available for half board) there was nothing to drink with your breakfast. Dinner was also nice. Some of the foods we had during our stay included greek salad, pork skewers, spaghetti bolognaise, burgers, swordfish, although the food did get quite repetitive and after 4 nights we definitely couldn’t have ate there again. It’s a shame you don’t get to really experience the true greek food. None of the food is labeled so sometimes you don’t know what you are eating. This is really bad for anyone with allergies. There is a dress code for men for dinner, they must wear trousers. This dress code is ridiculous for the food that is being served (a buffet) and the fact that there is no dress code for women.

On a positive, the staff at the hotel were very friendly and attentive. They worked very hard ensuring everything was satisfactory with the meals.

Overall this hotel could be amazing, however it needs a lot more work and attention to get to this standard. The thing that makes this hotel is the view, it is a shame everything else lets it down. I would not return unless substantial changes were made.
