We needed a place to break our trip home from Freiburg to Warrington. Hattonchatel seemed like a beautiful place to look forward to rather than endure as part or the drive.

We arrived on a dismal afternoon and met the host mid preparations for a wedding the next day. He still took time to show us round the castle and describe the history of the building and the area.

The room was beautiful, they all seem to have shared bathrooms ( it is genuinely part of the charm). We we given a room where nobody else was near so in effect had our own.

The restaurant was closed but we took advice of the host and went a few miles away for a meal.

The hotel was a Germany army command post in ww1 as the area was on the front line for much of the war. There is a real sense of reverence for miles around. We visited mont sec and a significant battlefield en route as we left.

It was a very moving experience.

We stopped here on a long drive from Austria to Calais. We booked online the same day and luckily a room was available, at a slightly lower cost than advertised by the hotel.

We loved the chateau, it's beautiful and clearly full of history. Fabian showed us around when we arrived and took us to our room at the top of the tower. The room was very pleasant, if a little warm with no air conditioning, but I appreciate it's an old building. We didn't mind sharing a bathroom given it was only one night but there were hairs in the sink which were left by another guest, one of those things I suppose when you share.

Lovely gardens which we sat in and had a drink. There are a small number of restaurants a short drive away and a supermarket in the village below. The chateau does offer a three or four course menu for dinner which we didn't take advantage of at €60/€75 per person. Had there been a little more flexibility on the menu we might have eaten there.

A lovely scenic place.

This chateau has stunning views and our bedroom was fantastic. We also booked the dinner at the Castle which is 75 euro pp. However in my view the meal and wines were all incredible and well worth the cost . I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for a stop if you are travelling across France

We stayed here last year on our way through France on motorcycles.
This hotel is just stunning in every respect. The rooms are large and extremely well presented. The views are to die for you can see for 50 miles in 3 directions.
The food has to be some of the best I have ever eaten, you do not get a choice and for some it might be a bit pricey, but hey you are only here once so make the most of it!!!
This is so good we are staying again in July this year.

Thr wonderful location on the top of a hill was just the start, the Chateau was delightful in every way. We were greeted by a charming manager who showed us round and gave us a potted history. The chateaux has been restored and has all the necessary modern conveniences including heating, which was slightly noisy for light sleepers we only wishes we could have stayed longer. A perfect setting for a wedding.
