“Back alley mid-terrace house, with living room in need of attention”

We quite disappointed with this property, poor value for the money charged, and not being well maintained for renting out. I think other reviewers are painting a rosy picture of what you get here for your money.

From the description and artful photos we expected a well-maintained delightful cosy country style home, what we got is a rather dull back alley mid-terrace house in need of sprucing up, not a nice space to stay in and relax.

First the good points. It is very near the beach and the wonderful seal colony which can be viewed Nov to February. Wifi was excellent, TV also, kitchen is pretty good too other than not having a breakfast bar or small table in it, beds very comfortable indeed – I slept wonderfully, plenty of fluffy grey towels provided, wash machine good.

Unfortunately there are lots of minus points too. House is located in a non too attractive cramped back alley, with tricky parking – there are 2 spaces allocated, the neighbours told us this, but with others parked in the narrow lane opposite it is really awkward to get in and out. Parking in the village elsewhere is difficult, you may be lucky at the nearby village hall green, in which case leave your car there for the duration would be my advice.

There is only hot water and heating if you keep the big coal fire going (there must be alternatives for summer but these were not offered) so for a winter rental be prepared to get your coal from the coal hole and deal with the fire cleaning and ash bucket every day. It works very well for both heating and water. But it was mild so this also meant the house was too hot all the time. Keeping a coal fire going does not have the allure off a wood stove and wood alone will not stay in overnight.

Overall finish round the house is quite rough and poor. The small bathroom is downstairs, no upstairs loo, and is ok with a shower over the bath, though the shower screen needs changing, bit manky at the bottom. Kitchen is fine, looks like a new fit-out, good lot of cooking equipment provided there, lacks a small table though, photo shows one that is not now there.

The main issue with the house is the living room. It is only modest size and is filled with worn sofa and dining table and manky old lights and ornaments, woeful. This room needs re-decorating and re-thinking to provide 2 smaller sofas round the fire/TV with a coffee table and a rectangular dining table on the other wall for eating, chatting, putting stuff etc – as it is the 3 of us could not easily sit down and share a meal at the table, this would require pulling out the table etc. There is not a single coffee table or side table in the place, the photo shows a chest in the living room that is not there. We had to use chairs as side tables.

Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, in what I guess you would call distressed look and feel, bare boards, bare wood doors etc. No wall decorations. It is OK. There is one big mirror in main bedroom, the only big one in the whole house. That room is good size and has walk in wardrobe and is fine, though view leaves a lot to be desired for a seaside holiday, over the back alley. Bedroom two is another double, this now lacks a bedside table, lacks a mirror and lacks any sort of hanging rail other than a single hook on the door. Photo shows a big mirror in bedroom 2 which is not there. Third bedroom is a small single.

Garden is ok but neglected, full of weeds, certainly not a great winter garden. Stair carpet has been removed and that is untreated bare boards. Things were messy under the stairs, we had to give under the sink a wipe it was a bit grubby.

A bit of a let down.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely village. Exactly as it said, 2 minutes from the beach (the dogs loved it and dog friendly too!). Sevena cottage was definately a home from home. Everything you would need provided - thoughtful things like loo rolls (scented and very nice!) kitchen roll etc. The garden was so nice and enclosed for the dogs (loved hearing the cricket in the garden every night!). The Dunes cafe served beautiful food. Lovely holiday cottage in a lovely village! Will definately be returning! - Thanks Lynne

Lovely, comfortable and well equipped cottage. Garden was beautiful with lots of seating to catch the sun at all times of the day. Also very secure for the dog.
Beach and dunes just a couple of minutes away which is brilliant for walking the dog.

This was a lovely comfortable cottage with a beautiful garden and ideally located for the beach. The cottage was very well equipped and we would certainly stay again.
