We arrived about 9pm at night in the pitch dark and tired after travelling since 5am. We couldn't see the house as there were no lights on, let alone find the key under the mat. The neighbour's Doberman was going ballistic at us and very scary, although we didn't know at the time that he was caged. When we eventually got inside the villa it looked as though the previous occupiers had just left. There were no beds made up, hardly any towels, the bathrooms had not been cleaned, there were dirty dishes in the dishwasher that had started to go mouldy, there was washing up on the draining board, the fridge still had the previous occupiers left over food in it, there were butt ends in the ashtrays and the floors had not been mopped. We were very upset to be honest. We rummaged through cupboards and drawers and found some linen for the beds and so were able to go to bed. There was no 'welcome pack' of food for us so we couldn't even have a slice of toast and cup of tea with milk before we went to bed, bearing in mind that it was now 10pm. In the morning we spoke to the another neighbour who was extremely helpful and came round and rang the owner and told him that we were not happy. I don't think he realised the situation with his villa. He said he would arrange for someone to come round that day and clean and provide fresh towels and linen. The cleaner (a man) didn't come round until the afternoon, so we had to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen before we could even think about putting our own food in it. When he arrived we went out for about 4 hours to let him clean, but when we came back apart from clean linen and the floors being mopped it was very hard to see what he had done. The bathrooms hadn't been touched and we had to ask him to do them, but even after he 'cleaned' them they were still not good enough to use so we had to clean them ourselves. Not a good start to the holiday! It was such a shame, because it is a really lovely villa with lovely furniture and is fully equipped, but the owner needs to arrange for a proper letting agency to look after it for his guests and make sure it is ready and clean when they arrive, and also provide a 'welcome pack'. I'm sorry it's a negative review, but with proper management this would be a super place to stay.
