This house has a million dollar view out of the window. As much as we loved sightseeing in Iceland we were stuck all three days in Brekka and didn't want to leave anywhere else. There were 7 of us, 4 adults and three kids and everyone absolutely loved the cottage. Hot tub made it even more sweet, so nice and cozy. Owners are superb, ready to help out, helpful, polite and friendly.
Definately buy some lamb and try the BBQ from the utility room!!!
Overall, it was worth every penny we paid for it. Would recommend to anyone going to Iceland.
Job and Anuja, thank you very much.

“Fantastic”

Well it was everything and more! The cottage was very well equipped, clean, comfortable and the views were fantastic. Located 1 hours drive outside of Reykjavik you had the choice of traveling around the fjoyd (free) or through the tunnel (Isk 1000 £7). The tunnel saves time but the photo opportunities around the fioyd are worth the additional time it takes. Hire car essential, we paid £255, with full excess cover, or 5 days. Having the car also allowed us to travel around the golden circle, the Blue Lagoon and the Glacier, along with other sight seeing adventures, without the extreme costs of having to book excursions.

Jon answered all of our questions promptly and we arrived a bit early at the cottage where we met his wife who was very helpful.

All in all a fantastic trip, unfortunately we didn't get to see the Northern Lights due to cloud cover, however the weather was mild so we had snow and rain free days to travel. We highly recommend the cottage and would not hesitate returning.

We stayed at Brekka for 4 nights from the 17th-21st November to celebrate my 30th birthday and from the minute we got there we fell in love with the place. Jon and Auja have thought of everything, there is lots of storage, seating, hooks to hang all your layers up and lots of books, tourist guides and info sheets about the lodge.

There were 6 adults staying at Brekka, the bedrooms were nice and we had lots of space in the living area. The mezzanine where there is a TV with lots of films and shows was used to escape each other ☺

The hot tub was a fab part of the holiday we chilled our drinks in the snow while we chilled out in the hot tub looking out on an amazing view. Brekkas location is absolutely fantastic such gorgeous surroundings.

We used the tunnel most days I think it was about £7 a time but we also drove around the bay it's only about 15 minutes extra. When we arrived we ditched our luggage and went to Akranes to Bonus to get some food supplies in, it came to around £25 each. We bought mince, chicken, spaghetti, pizzas, crisps and snacks plus bread and other items. I would say though to check the food box in the out house before you go shopping as you may buy things that have been left. We did take some food with us too not much though.

We hired a 7 seater 4x4 from Reykjavik cars who were the most reasonably priced. I know Jon can get discount at a certain car rental company but I can't remember who it was. It was very snowy (maybe not to Icelanders but to us) when we arrived so a 4x4 was 100% necessary to get to Brekka. The main roads where OK but the side roads where covered. We would hire 2 4x4s next time as it was a bit of a squeeze with 2 guys over 6ft 5 even without the luggage we had a few grumpy passengers.

It took us about 2 hours to get from the airport but Reykjavik was only 45 minutes away. We went to the blue lagoon, we drove the golden circle tour ourselves (my favourite part of our trip) and me and my partner did the twin peaks quad biking with safari quads which was fun.

Little tip take gloves that you can use your phone with and put them under your normal gloves. Your hands get so cold when trying to take pictures also take a waterproof phone case to the blue lagoon.

I can't recommend Brekka enough. Jon was so helpful with answering questions before we arrived.

We're planning on coming back in 2018 and doing more of a trip around Iceland. We will definitely be looking at booking with Nordic Lodges again and trying out some of their other locations.

“Winter stay”
Reviewed 8 November 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We had the best time here on our family adventure to the snow! The cabin was fantastic, warm and comfortable for the 5 of us. The views were just amazing and sitting in the hot tub looking for the Northern Lights was just magic. Would love to go back one day.

Thank you for this review, Christina.
You're absolutely right, the winter and the snow is no barrier for staying at our cottages. Especially not when you have an access to such a gorgeous hot tub with the geothermal water flowing through. A sheer luxury of nature!
