We saw a few dark pink cherry blossoms, but Someiyoshino Sakura were not yet blooming. In the future I should visit the pond between Spring Equinox and the end of March in order to enjoy cherry blossoms.

A gorgeous pond in Ueno with all its wonderful attractions, vestiges of ancient Shitamachi, shrines, museums, the zoo(and its pandas), a theater for the performing arts.
There was once a racetrack around the Pond. I have seen a woodblock print to evidence it. Try that one on your Japanese friends. It is likely they never new it.
We passed by this pond on the way out from Ueno zoo. As it was winter, the lotus plants have dried up or probably hibernating.
I believe this would be a beautiful sight where the lotus plants come alive and flower during spring.
Even though the area is best known for its cherry blossoms, I loved it in the autumn and I got it at sunset. The place is heavenly, a wonderful walk around.
When we visited the Lillys were in full growth so not as much water visible as I expected but still worth a gentle walk around its perimeter.
It is a large water feature in Ueno Park. Has good views of surrounding Tokyo and little boats that you can hire to go out on the pond. The park is popular with tourists and locals and is a safe place. The central pond is just one part of the much larger Ueno Park.
