Excellent location, super clean and comfortable

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Feb 2013
Cross Hotel Osaka was located just a block away from the popular neon-lit area of Dotonburi, so there is loads of bars, restaurants and shops within a few minutes walk, not to mention great sight seeing and photo opportunities, especially at night. It's also just 5-10 minutes walk from Namba Station, which runs both JR and Metro subway lines, making it easy to access any part of the city from that station. The hotel staff are polite and check-in and check-out was quick and easy. Our room was adequately sized, and the bathroom was particularly generous by Japanese standards. The bedding was exceptionally comfortable, and unlike in some other hotels, we were not cooked to death by pre-set heating overnight! It was a clean, comfortable stay and I would return to this hotel.
Date of stay: January 2013
Room Tip: It's in a busy part of town, so possibly rooms on higher floors are less effected by street...

If you are planning to visit Osaka and are looking for a hotel, look no further than the Cross Hotel. Very well located for business, leisure (shopping and dining) this is the perfect place. I have used the hotel twice now and can report that the bedrooms are large, very comfortable and quiet. The restuarant for breakfast is great - the buffet provides extensive food choices both Japanese and Western. The room rate is not cheap but not expensive, around $90/night. Well worth while trying.

An easy walk from Namba Station, the Cross Hotel is located in the heart of Osaka, near the covered markets and just a few metres down from the river. The subway means that there are exits near the hotel, so traveling is made easier by being able to get to the hotel without having to cross busy intersections. We stayed in a western style room which was clean, well presented and had a seperate bathroom with bath and shower.

Room tip: Choose a western room but ask for non smoking!

I don't think it's possible to find a better value for money in Osaka. The location is absolutely unbeatable, 3min from the main shopping and restaurants street, the hotel is brand new and look quite sleek. The room are nicely decorated and fairly large by japanese standards, and the bathtub in the bathroom is huge! Like so many hotels in Japan, rooms are spotless, with 5 service and lots of goodies in the room. They even have a free underground parking, which is a blessing in central Osaka.
I chose not to pay for breakfast since I read bad reviews about it, and I'm so glad I didn't! In the hotel lobby there is a very nice little cafe serving great food (salads, sandwiches, pancakes etc.), you should check it out!

The reception area to the hotel was a bit confusing as seemed to be somehow combined with a shopping area. Although the staff members at reception were polite no one could speak English, so our request for a quite room could not be conveyed, and the room we were given was very noisy. I have first hand knowledge that Osaka never sleeps. The decor was very reminiscent of a movie theatre interior but the the room was comfortable, except for the hard pillow. There was no gym facility in this hotel which was a disappointment. Reading other reviews there seems to be quite a discrepancy in what bathroom goodies are available. Ours were pretty standard, no L'Occitane soap and certainly no pajamas. The location was great, an easy walk to major attractions and stations.

Room tip: Get a Japanese phrase book so can make your request for a quiet room understood!

Great location - close to Dotonbori and has a Lawson's just next to it.

Despite it being on a busy road, we were high up enough to have some peace and quiet.

I had read previous reviews about smelly, smokey rooms so I emailed them in advance to request a non-smoking room but was told in a scripted manner that they are not guaranteed and had to be requested on arrival. Not sure why they are a bit strange about non-smoking rooms but I did also notice certain floors had a VERY strong smoke smell. Even when I requested for one the receptionist didn't appear to be eager to confirm this or say it was not available. It was very strange but in the end we did get one. I think our experience would have be quite different if we did not end up with a non-smoking room. So if you are a non-smoker please remember to ask for one!!

Back to the good points: the bathroom is nice and shower spacious and they offered the most bathroom products I've ever seen a hotel provide! There was a whole basket full of them including some L'Occitane soaps. They also provided pyjamas (which seemed to be common in some hotels) and also gave a us a Christmas gift of a hand towel and hair products as we were there close to Christmas time.
