The a/c does not work, so hot and it's only spring!!! Reception, restaurant, lobby... too many people, too many tour groups, too many mainlanders, AND NOT ENOUGH STAFF.
Room is 31m2, good size and newly renovated. NOT COMING BACK!

Pros: LOCATION! Directly across the street from the Kyoto station. Besides getting lost several times in the GIANT train station and attached mall, the hotel is easily walk-able from the train. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly and easily conversed in English. The room was more spacious than others we stayed in and had a nice view of the courtyard. They had a fun set-up in the lobby where you can take photos wearing a kimono.
Cons: The beds were INCREDIBLY hard. I mean, you may as well be sleeping on the floor. The room and bathroom were in need of an update. The AC wouldn't turn on, which wasn't a big deal once we opened the window. The breakfast was very pricey. We were easily able to find more affordable places to east at the train station.

We stayed two nights at the New Miyako as part of our Japanican 3-day tour to Kyoto in late March. The hotel was the only disappointment of the tour. Our room smelled slightly of sewer gas and would not cool at night. The hotel said that the air conditioning was not available, and sent up a fan. This was helpful, but really should not be needed. The hotel was conveniently near to the train station, but unfortunately the public areas themselves felt like a train station.

We travelled with 2, 6mth old twins, so didn't experience much of the nightlife in and around the hotel, but the room was very comfortable and had a great view of the train station. The staff were particularly friendly and specifically towards the kids. If you are looking for comfort, convenience and friendly staff I highly recommend, if you want extreme luxury or retreat styling then perhaps look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Nice views of the main train station from the NE corner.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel during cherry blossom. The hotel was crowded and people anywhere. It felt like the hotel where to small in their facilities to handle so many people. Long waiting time in the elevators and when they come they where full. Half hour waiting time in all 3 breakfast restaurants. Not sure why because there where many free tables inside and then it us even more irritating to wait. The american/buffet breakfast restaurant did not have anything american and was similar to the buffet/Japanese which have Japanese in addition. We order a premier triple room and get an twin room and a terrible sofa bed. The reception where not friendly when we complained about this and said sofa bed was the same as a bed. When you sleep 3 nights on a sofa bed you understand why there is price difference between triple room and twin room. Overall not an good hotel experience on this hotel and next time visiting Kyoto will be on another hotell.
