We were lucky to be upgraded to a family room, which was a great treat and included two bedrooms, showers and a living area. The staff were great throughout. We tried several of the restaurants and the bar and the standard of food and drink in all was excellent. Be warned though, the restaurants get very busy with non residents, so book if you want to eat - on one occasion we couldn't find anywhere in the hotel for lunch. It is ideally placed for visiting the many shops and the Gion district. We also visited the Fushimi Inari Shrine, which is an absolute MUST, and was easily reachable by metro. We used the laundry service which was very efficient. Highly recommended.

The hotel looks nice in pictures, but in reality is an old and dated hotel. This is my first 5 stars hotel that gave me a traditional key with a gigantic keyholder, not an electronic key. The room was ok but dated. The mattress and pillows were not comfortable. The bathroom had a good size but dated. The restaurants are extremely expensive.
I think you can find better options in Kyoto for the money.

Okura is a nice hotel at a great location. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was nice, very clean n comfortable. The only improvement I can think of is for the hotel to provide some USB sockets to charge mobile phones and other devices. Apart from that, the hotel is perfect. I would definitely stay there again.

We requested a high floor and got one, so had a lovely view and a lovely room. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. We walked almost everywhere - to Nichiki market, to Gion etc.

A high floor is worthwhile because the street noise carries, including the pedestrian buzzer noise. The standard of hotel hairdryers is important to me and this one was unfortunately one of those small pathetic ones.

A tip for travellers - there is a bakery on level B2 that does great tartines, croissants etc. much better value at JPY 300 or so than full hotel breakfasts.

Great customer service across the board from reception, cleaners and shuttle service from Kyoto station.

The hotel is walking distance to Gion, Nishiki market and the subway. A lot of nice restaurants in between as well.

Only major area for improvement is the furniture and fittings. The hotel has been around for a while, but still manageable for the price you pay.

Hopefully the hotel will invest in an upgrade as it will do it wonders. We loved Kyoto and it’s community!

Thank you!!!
