Worst hotel in all our Japan trip. 4 stars, yeah sure: at the check in, you’re asked if you want the room to be cleaned or if you prefer a coin for free water...the breakfast consist in a coffee machine and bread with margarine. And finally, and that’s common to all Kyoto’s and Tokyo’s hotels, the room is so small you can barely move. That, after paying nearly 20000 JPY per night, it’s just an abuse. Please let’s standard the star system all over the world. The emplacement, however, is not bad at all.

My friend and I stayed here in a standard twin room for three nights when visiting Kyoto.

It can be accessed a number of ways but we used the JR San-In Line to Nijo station, as we had a Japan Rail Pass, from which the hotel was only a 10 minute walk.

The hotel staff were nice and check in and check out were easy.

The hotel breakfast was simple but filling with a selection of breads, cereals and some salads.

The room was fairly small but there was enough room to store our two backpacks with ease. The bathroom was also fairly small but enough room to do what is needed.

The beds were comfortable and there were ample power points available for charging - including USB ports which meant we didn't need our adaptors!

The hotel was a nice stay and in a good area and I would definitely stay here again!

Thank you for choosing karaksa hotel Kyoto 1 and also for sharing your comments here. We're very honored to know that you enjoyed staying at our hotel. It means a lot to us. Our room is not big compared with a room in western countries. However, we try to let our guests have a relaxing stay in Kyoto by keeping a room clean.
We sincerely hope you will come back to our hotel on your next trip.Thank you!

Excellent hotel, excellent ubication (30’ walking distance from Gion). the room is big (if you compare it to the other hotels in Japan), big and really comfortable beds and breakfast with western options, they change it every day so you have variety. You also have free drinks in the lobby.
But I would highlight the staff: Helena and Uemura, who helped us a lot in our stay in Kyoto. Helena gave us some interesting tips in Kyoto and Uemura helped us with a problem we had in a store in Kanazawa. The english from all the staff is really good!
There is a train station 2’ walking distance and there is also Jr bus 2’ walking distance. I would highly recommend it!

Stayed for 2 nights. The rooms were surprisingly larger than expected and the staff were helpful. USB ports were available in the rooms. Safe is provided at the hotel lobby. The whole place is kept simple and clean. Air condition is available in warm and cold setting.

The hotel is also near to subway station and there are convenient stores nearby.

Overall, we really enjoyed our short stay at Karaksa.

Very good place for family to stay since they have connecting room which not many places have this option.

Room is “reasonably” big for Japan and have most of the amenities except room safe . Safety box is available in the lobby .

Simple Breakfast is available and good enough to fill your stomach.

Coin operated laundry is about 8 mins walk away and 24hr supermarket just nearby.
