The bambu path is ok. But you have to get there very early in the morning to have a chance to a good pic. Otherwise I wouldn’t go.

A must-see in Kyoto, but go early in the morning! My husband and I also paid the fee to visit the Okochi-Sanso Villa and hike around the grounds. We felt it was worth it and gave us an extra activity after making the trip out to Arashiyama. You could easily spend an hour or a whole day out there, so plan ahead to make it perfect for you! There are lots of shrines, the monkey park, romance train, etc.

This forest is a little bit difficult to access as you need a 10-15minute walk from the metro or JR train stop. Although there is a station ending at the forest border, it does not connect to many downtown public transit lines. The visit can be combined with the Tenryu Ji temple (we saw already quite a few so skipped this part). As it covers you from the sun, the bamboo forest is nice. Its just a short path, but quite nice. We were here in a weekend, so it was quite crowded.

The iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto is one of the most beautiful and serene places we visited during our travels through Japan. One of our lasting memories of the trip is the two of us standing hand in hand gazing up at the towering bamboo grove on a fresh Kyoto morning. The graceful bamboo pillars stretch up to the sky, whispering back and forth in the wind illuminated in the soft morning light. It’s an incredible place!
