The iconic Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto is one of the most beautiful and serene places we visited during our travels through Japan. One of our lasting memories of the trip is the two of us standing hand in hand gazing up at the towering bamboo grove on a fresh Kyoto morning. The graceful bamboo pillars stretch up to the sky, whispering back and forth in the wind illuminated in the soft morning light. It’s an incredible place!

It’s not as impressive as I expected, and definitely not as big as I expected. It’s a nice place to visit, especially when it’s hot, but I wouldn’t say it’s a must-see. The bamboo forest at the Fushimi Inari Shrine looked just as nice, and it was much more quiet there.

When the sunshine reflects on the bamboo grove, it was extremely beautiful and peaceful . Travelers must keep quiet to enjoy and feel this moment.

Go early in the morning, before 8am, so you can get good pictures. It's small, but well-worth your time. It's in the Arashiyama area, which is amazingly beautiful too.

Ok this is one of the places the guides tell you you must see in Kyoto. And i was looking forward to it. But the reality was not as good as the expectation. A shortish walk up a hill between some large bamboo. Thats it. We got there via leaving the temple gardens by the north gate. Well at least we got some photos. Underwhelming.
