Ok this is one of the places the guides tell you you must see in Kyoto. And i was looking forward to it. But the reality was not as good as the expectation. A shortish walk up a hill between some large bamboo. Thats it. We got there via leaving the temple gardens by the north gate. Well at least we got some photos. Underwhelming.

If you are spending time in Kyoto, take the short train trip to Arashiyama to see the bamboo forest - it is an absolute must; an atmospheric oasis that seems a million miles from the hustle and bustle of central Kyoto. It is very hard to do it justice in a description or photograph - you really have to go there to truly appreciate it.

This place has become an attraction thanks to the free admission and the nice bamboo background setting for one to take photos. The specific location which one can take lovely photos is quite limited, maybe only 2-3 spots.

Thus, advisable for one to go early to avoid the crowds.

I recommend this tour by walk because you can feel and smell the forest and be in touch with the nature. I recommend an other tour besides this impressive bamboo forest just beside there is and other garden and tea house is really nice and with your ticket they offer a free green tea and a candy
