It doesn't look much from the outside and on arrival the place was empty(never a good sign) however this was merely because Italians seem to dine later and we went on week nights.
The service was friendly, the ambience simple but tidy and the food AMAZING. Ignoring the fact you get a lot for your money (always good) the real winner was the taste. Often a large menu means only a few things are done well but it was quite the opposite here - so much so that we went back the next night and were even more impressed.
I would take a 30hr flight again just for this restaurant.
Best tip - don't ask for a translation. Be brave and you'll be amazed at what you have never tried but would wholeheartedly recomend.
I wish there was a La Gargotta in New Zealand

We are travelling through the north of Italy in an eating adventure. We stayed in a B&B near Mantova and found this restaurant near by. Although we've driven more than 2 hours to go to other restaurants that we've read about in books and tripadvisor, we decided to go back to this one! Excellent food, wine and fantastic service. The owners and chefs Paride and Cristina are the nicest people you will find, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Everything is home made and they sell some of their fantastic products for you to take home. I recommend the tortellini in brodo, the ravioli di zucca with their home made mostarda, the snails and the fantastic desserts! Definitely worth a visit!

A nice restaurant with very attentive service, and high-quality cuisine. You can order either a la carte or a degustation menu for 30 euro. The latter is very big and a good value. A lot of components are of local production which always makes a good impression. The deserts where great! In general-a very nice eveningin a relaxed athmosphere with excellent food. Thank you!
