“Worth the hike”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013

After climbing straight up from Manarola on the 6d trail forever we finally got to Volastra. We were planning to continue hiking to Corniglia, but instead turned right to check out the tiny town. We were happy to find the l'Arcobaleno open at lunch time. What a great little place. Full deli to make paninis at lunch time. Wine on tap. And when you order wine they bring you free olives and foccacio bread in the old Italian tradition. Very inexpensive. And with no one speaking English we knew we would get great food and service, and we were not disappointed. And since we burned off over 1000 calories just climbing there from Manarola it really was a diet place. (or at least I imagine it was)

“Communication a bit challenging, but worth the effort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2013

When we visited in May of 2013, this was one of two restaurants in Volastra. It seems to have started as a "take-away" place, but has recently added a nice dining room as well. It is only opened in the evening--usually beginning about 7PM and appears to be run by a couple. The husband takes orders and runs the dining room and his wife does the cooking. During our week in Volastra, we ordered carryout from them two different times and were very satisfied with the quality of the food: a wonderful home-made lasagna, a seafood/pasta dish, and some wonderful tiramisu. We had gotten spoiled with the English-speaking waitstaff in Rome and Siena, but in a way the fact that the owner didn't speak English was evidence that we were a little bit off the tourist circuit--the other people sitting around waiting for their orders to be filled were locals. We were the only visitors in the place. So, although communication was a little difficult, it was cordial and the food was worth the effort. Highly recommended.
