“Fisherman's paradise and great family holiday too”

I stayed here for a quite weekend with my husband last year in 2014 and he stayed on for the rest of the week fishing with his friend. Located on the shores of Lough Owel it is truly a fisherman's paradise with secure garden to leave your boat. This year we returned with children and dog in tow and we had a marvelous time. It is such a lovely tranquil cottage with a very cosy log burning stove in the corner of the sitting room which kept us very warm even in the unexpected snow this year! The kids had a great time with the climbing frame in the garden and even the dog made new friends with Sandy the resident dog. Walks down to the shore line were lovely with the horses following us along the way. I would highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a quite tranquil get away even with the children. It was so safe for them just to let them out in the garden to play as you are far away from the main road! We have booked again for next year and hope to make it a family tradition for the fishing in March to stay there again and again. Thank you Jacinta for your lovely hospitality and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

“Great place for DIY vacationers.”

If you like the country and want to be able to come and go as you please, this is it. Wonderful place. Roomy, cozy. This was my first time out of the states. I did not want to do some regulated tour bus. My husband and I with friends chose this for our home base in Ireland. Only 50 minutes drive on the n/m 4 motorway or national road to Dublin. Only an hour and thirty minutes drive to Galway. Did not realize this when I rented this place but I think this place was great. At first the wifi did not work, but Jacinta fixed it before the day ended. What a relief, as I needed to stay in touch with family from time to time. The dog and cat, Sandy and Buddy, were nice company too. We spoiled them rotten. The showers and bathrooms good. Both full baths. Good heating when chilly. Great place for kids to play. Wonderful walk to the lake. The ponies were lovely. Fed them some apples. Just a great place. Needs some more board games though. If this is one's first travels to Ireland, bring some boxes and bubble wrap with you if you need to ship stuff home and if the store won't ship for you. Happy travels.

“I got my quiet paradise and they got their adventure!”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We spent 8 days in Aug 2013 at Lake Lodge and we loved it! It was everything we’d hoped it would be. Easy to get to from Dublin, once you turn off the main road it feels like you are in the middle of no-where. Paradise!

The Lodge is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Each bedroom has a double and a single bed. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything that you might need. A short drive to Mullingar and you have all the facilities a major town can offer including pubs and a Tourist Office where you can pick up maps and information about the local area.

We have two girls aged 8 and 10 and they loved it too! Outside is a big play frame with swings and a slide and just down the path is an amazing tree house. The Lodge is at the end of a gated driveway so no worries if the children wanted to play outside. We hired a row boat and went out on the lake. We went horse riding at the local stables. We went for walks in the forest out at the back of the Lodge. Best of all was our own private access to the lough. The girls begged to go swimming every day and I have the best photos and video of them jumping off the decking into the (freezing!) lake. I got my quiet paradise and they got their adventure!

The Lodge is owned by a lovely family who did everything they could to make us feel welcome. At the end of our stay I gave the girls a choice for next year, Lake Lodge or Ibiza, they chose Lake Lodge!

“Stunning, tranquil location but still a great central point to travel Ireland”

I wanted a rural location to be able to enjoy some time alone with my family but I also needed somewhere that was quite central in Ireland to cover a fairly packed agenda of family visits to Mullingar, Leitrem, Donegal and Dublin. Lakelodge ticked all the boxes.

We arrived late and Jacinta, the owner, could not have been more helpful. The accommodation was spotless and thought had definitely been given to the ambience of the accommodation - homely but done with style.

We were really lucky with the weather which simply added to the tranquility of the location. Lakelodge stands close to a lough and we walked to the waters edge every morning to just soak in Ireland's beauty. Simply marvellous.
