This huge stone statue of the Buddha is placed on a small hill. The statue by itself is awe inspiring and the view from the top is beautiful. You have to climb a bit to reach the actual statue. But once up there the view is fantastic. The statue of the Thai king is also impressive. All around the bigger statue are smaller statues of the Buddha in various forms. On your way down you will encounter some monkeys, be careful with your food stuff if you are carrying any, the monkeys are very naughty and will snatch away the food you are carrying.

The statue is absolutely stunning and the view of the sea from the above is breathtaking... mesmerizing scenery from the top..entrance is free and its located on a hill..no public bus goes there so i chose to do a private tour of big buddha, promthep cape, kata viewpoint, wat challong with lots of shops for 6 hr for only 475 baht...its absolutely cheap tour for us in an AC van..

The attraction is a must see in Phuket, since it gives you the possibility to get a taste of the locality and the sight from there is just unbelievable! You should wear appropriate clothes (shirt with long sleeves and pants that cover your legs). In case you do not have these kind of clothes with you the staff will give you a scarf to put on your shoulders at least. It is better to go there when it is not a foggy day to get a clear sight and the best pictures!

We visited the Big Buddha as part of a package tour which included this, Chalong Temple, Elephant Trekking and Tiger Kingdom. The Buddha itself is being renovated so there is not too much to see inside but it is extremely impressive outside and offers superb views of Phuket, we also whilst there got a blessing from a monk which was a great experience.

Too not visit while in Phuket would be a missed opportunity. Point to note, dress code for women while visiting. No exposed shoulders, or "short" shorts.
The area is still under construction, but this will not take away from the visit.
We rented a scooter to get up there from Patong, very easy and not locked into a group for travel.
There are active Monks and prayers taking place constantly. Blessings are avail to all. Donations encouraged for development. Snacks and items sold on site.
Great photo ops from every vantage point.
