First I'd like to thank Sinead. From the moment I booked she was very helpful!
The photos don't do it justice, the house is amazing!! The fire was lit for us on arrival, fresh bread and milk and butter left out. House was very clean and tidy. Views were surreal! Our stay was perfection, we booked it for a friends get together, and everyone was so impressed, they agreed we were coming here again soon. Home away from home!
Thanks again Sinead
Excellent farm to have some quality time. The house is very warm, peaceful and quiet. Lovely lake down the hill for pike fishing, I love going around the farm on the quad. Definitely will be coming back.
Owners are very nice
The location is amazing, the lake is on the doorstep! This is a fantastic family and dog-friendly farmhouse with a stunning lake view. There is a wonderful outdoor patio that's so spacious it can accommodate large groups of people in a friendly and sheltered environment for a BBQ, table and benches for eating with a generous seating area around a chiminea for chats and wine long into the night. Just lovely! There were 4 adults and 5 children with us ranging in age from 7 to 13. We chose McCormacs Farmhouse because it offered us the perfect choice between camping in a tent, or, staying in the house if any of us so decided. That flexibility and availability of choice was brilliant to have. Shopping for food was not an issue, there are shops and places to eat nearby. The house itself is very well presented and obviously recently renovated, but renovated in such a way that none of the old world charms has been lost, just the old world coldness and discomfort! The electric shower was handy and the range unit in the sitting room is the perfect way to heat an authentic farmhouse. In so far as things to do the choices are not limited. There is a quad bike available for use, ideal for zipping up and down to the lake if the lovely short walk there and back does not appeal to you. There is also a 4 wheel drive transporter for movement of more than 2 people at a time. I think it's called a Kubota tractor. The walks around the lake are spectacular. Bring your Wellington boots! There is a traditional clinker style boat with an outboard engine for exploring the lake. You should definitely do that, bring a picnic and seek out the hidden passageways that will link you from one lake into another. I'd assume fishing is good, however, it's not something we did. There are also a couple of canoes and a couple of paddle boards available for those that wish to expend some energy whilst exploring the lake. There are some very interesting animals on the farm and remember, it is a real working farm. That level of reality adds to the overall experience of the stay at McCormacs Farmhouse. The owners, the lovely John and Sinead, have not delivered a modern pastiche or hommage to a working farmhouse, they have delivered the real thing. The only fakes there were us! The animals included a herd of dairy calves, some long horned shaggy cows (sorry cow aficionados, I have no idea what breed they were) and a very entertaining, hungry and curious pig called Priscilla. The children had so much fun between all the things to do on land and water, plus, all the animals to see. They were on the go morning to night. That's grand, however, from a selfish perspective, what about the fun for the adults I hear you ask?? Well, the adults managed to have a great time too!! 'Nuff said! We will all be back.
