This hotel has a friendly atmosphere and though the basic rooms are small, they are clean and well-serviced. The air conditioner worked well and happily there were some English stations on the telly. Rooms have quaint paintings on the walls (we had cats). Bathroom was small but clean.

Staff was friendly and helpful. The neighbourhood provides eating establishments for virtually every budget.

The hotel is located in Dongmen area, right in the market, which is pretty cool if you like to explore local urban areas. Close to the subway and sharing bike station and many restaurants, some of which are extremely popular among tourists. Like other reviews have mentioned, there's no elevator and the stairs are pretty steep. So put that in count if you have a big luggage.
The room was pretty clean, all good. In the family room the sink isn't in the toilet but right there in the room.
Free wifi.

If you are intended to spend just a couple of days in Taipei, this hostel is a god choice. Attendants speak good English. If you have a heavy luggage request for a first floor room as there's no elevator and the stairs are kinda difficult to climb with it, also the mattress was a little bit thin so you can fell the bed itself. The good part is that is pretty close to the exit of gate 1 from dongmen station (train). Also is just 3 or 4 stations away from 101 tower

Dongmen Hotel was a great, on-a-budget hotel to stay in Taipei. The front desk was very attentive, especially when we encountered a few issues that was not related to the hotel. It is walking distance to YongKang street, which is known for Din Tai Fung, shaved ice, and etc. I would defintely return to Dongmen Hotel the next time I'm in Taipei!

This hotel is a good option for someone on a budget in Taipei, who's looking for something a little nicer or with more privacy and space than a capsule hotel or hostel.

First off, Taipei is very expensive for accommodation, so this place represents pretty good value for money. The location is excellent, but not in a neighbourhood most tourists will typically focus on, hence the slightly lower prices you'll pay here than for comparable hotels in the more touristy areas.

There's an MRT station pretty much right outside the hotel, so it's really easy to get anywhere in the city, and you can walk to several nice attractions and restaurant areas: if you go to the main street and turn left, you'll pass the entrance to the MRT then several small restaurants and bakeries. On the other side of this main street, about a block along, you'll find a couple of streets filled with restaurants and small places to get food (like Yongkang Street). If you follow Yongkang Street south, it will take you right to Shida night market (15-20 minute walk), which is a great place to explore and eat.

You'll also within easy walk of Daan Park, for a little greenery.

The hotel is as described by the other guests - a steep staircase leads up to reception (with a buzzer to call staff to come and help with your bags, if needed). The staircase was fine for me (and my knees aren't in amazing shape, but I managed fine) but would make this hotel unsuitable for those with really bad knees, and might be challenging for those travelling with small children.

There are rooms behind reception and on a couple of higher floors. The rooms vary a lot, both in decoration and in size (so if you arrive without a reservation, ask to see a couple before you make up your mind). Those higher up will be a bit quieter, but you'll need to manage more stairs.

The amenities are excellent (tea and coffee in rooms, hot and cold water dispenser in the hallway, toiletries, flatscreen TV with plenty of English-language channels, comfy beds, A/C) and staff were friendly and helpful when I arrived. Some rooms at the back of the hotel look towards a main road, but the traffic noise wasn't bad when I was there.

Overall, I was happy with my stay here.

Room Tip: The rooms vary a lot, both in decoration and in size, so ask to see a couple
