If you are staying in the neighbourhood for business, Li Yuan could be a good choice, but its not a place to relax. The rooms are boxes, clean, neat and tidy, but still boxes with almost no windows. Not for the claustrophobic! The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is clean and functional. The TV has almost no English channels. The breakfast is a little limited but tasty. The front desk staff are very helpful. A good point is that the hotel is very close to both Shida street and to an MRT station.

I chose this hotel for my 8 days trip as it is near the shi-da night market, where my favourite 卤味 (noodles with a lot of ingredients thrown in) is located. Shi-da is a 3 minute walk away from the hotel and the best place to hunt for food and buy it back to the hotel for a nice slow dinner/supper, since it opens till quite late into the night.

The hotel is also conveniently located at tai power MRT station.Taipei is generally accessibly via MRT and having a hotel near an MRT station is a real advantage. I also like their friendly staff there, especially the ladies who are at the breakfast area. After 2 mornings there, the aunties recognised us and started talking to us about our trip. This really made me feel welcomed as they talked to us every morning after that.

MOST IMPORTANTLY!!! There is self service laundry free of charge at this hotel. All the hotels I choose to stay in Taiwan has free self service laundry. This is especially important to us as we love to go there during winter and would have to bring a lot more winter clothing if there was no self service laundry available. This would cost us our luggage space dearly as I love to buy lots of clothes from Taipei! This self service laundry includes washing machine and dryer facilities. My clothes don't shrink even though it goes through the dryer. For travellers who want to save on their luggage space, you may consider this hotel. If you want other hotels with the same laundry service, feel free to look at my other reviews.

About 10 minutes by taxi to the Science Education Center of NTNU which we visit.
Has a nearby night market (Shida), though I didn't go there.
Nearby subway station (Taipower), your gateway to any tourist destinations.
Homey feels. Breakfast is fine.
No lounge/waiting area in the lobby though.

This hotel is small, strategically located, and attractive. It is so minimal in its footprint that it has basically no lobby, and the only common area where one can sit is in the breakfast area on the bottom floor. In general, our stay at this hotel was fine… The service is pleasant and generally efficient, the breakfast is filling, varied, and prepared carefully.and perhaps most important, this hotel is located a convenient 50 feet from the Taipower Building metro station, which is central, and seemingly close to everything.

The only downside is that we would note was that the cleaning was not always 100% thorough. The clearest indication was the mold around the bathtub, which never seemed to go away, it was quite clear and obvious. It is true that Taipei is a humid, subtropical city, but it really is possible to get rid of that mold, and keep the bathroom a little more attractive.

We stayed in this hotel for more than a week, and would happily stay there again. Again, it has a lot of positives, and only a few negatives.

This is such an unassuming hotel, but the important criterion for us is the strategic location, about 900 meters to the National Taiwan University. There's no need to walk as the MRT station is 30 meters away! The staffs are very helpful although their English is limited (the cafe staff). The counter staffs are ever willing to assist especially with writing in Mandarin the location to give to the cab driver. Across the hotel is the Shida market & night market for some sundries. The morning market is a very interesting event for foodies or just to capture the cultural and traditional way that the operators sell unique stuff/food especially the variety of juicy fruits.

Room Tip: Choose the street view rooms if you can. Better the streets that the rooftops on the other side of the hotel building
