My wife and I originally planned to go to Shiyangshanfang which is more famous but we tried to book only 3 days ago and of course we failed. Then, upon searching TripAdvisor we found the Shanjiancangfang. Shanjain is located much closer to the Taipei city, and in fact just a few kilometers from the highway exit at Xindian. We drove to Shanjian and at the beginning it appears that the surrounding community is a typical village with some construction waste. But when we arrived at the place and walked inside the big warehouse, we suddenly found ourselves entering a zen garden! There is a delicate garden at the entrance with ponds and trails arranged in Taiji style. This is one of the best zen garden I visited and according to the staff this garden was designed by the restaurant owner.

We went to a second floor of the warehouse. Each table was divided by curtains from others so each table has a private, rather spacious environment. You can see that all the corners in the room are decorated by different potting and all of them are different but vividly contribute to the zen style of the room.

The staff helped us was very nice and she gave a lots of introductions both on the cuisine itself and tours in Taipei. Each dish was presented with very accurate control of timing - the next one is delivered as soon as we finished the previous dish. The plate presentation was marvelous, and the plates are supported on planks which are different and corresponding to the dish content.

The food itself is splendid and you do not realize they are actually veggie. There are 8-9 dishes in total (I cannot remember clearly) but each one of them is different in cooking style and ranges from Chinese to Japanese styles. There are soups, sushi, desserts, and even flowers for you to smell! We took around 2 hrs to finish the whole meal.

Overall I would highly recommend this place to all people who want delicate cuisine and vegetable dining in Taipei in a quite and zen place.

The location is hidden behind an old factory so you might need a local to show you around. The meals are set meals with no particular menu. They will let you know what the prices are and what they have when you arrive. You must book in advance and also get directions from them, as you may easily miss the entrance. Parking is free.
