Take the ferry to Cijin Island, and walk around (or rent a bike or a "rikshaw"). Enjoy the beach, people watch, have some sea food, walk around the covered market, have a bubble tea or sugar cane juice etc. Nothing overly exciting, but its definitely a very very pleasant place to spend half a day in Kaohsiung.

This is a really nice break from the city, and yet so close! You take a 10 minute ferry ride and then you're on a quiet island with lots of bike space and some surfing beaches. The point really isn't to SEE stuff, although there are sights. It was way more fun to just rent a cheap electric bike and cruise around the bike paths seeing what could be discovered. Seafood lunch was good too.

We spent the whole day on this island. It was absolutely beautiful and amazing. Walked along the beach which surprisingly wasn't crowded. Rented an electric bike for a really cheap price and was able to get across the entire island. Would definitely recommend hing up the the old fort and lighthouse. Also really enjoyed the tunnel.

It is a small island near Kaohsiung. We take a boat there (around 15mins) for 25nt, then we rent a bike for 100nt/bike there. You can rent a bike or big bike (can contains up to 3-5 person) or motorcycle. Or you can also walk around but it took a long time :)
We enjoyed the sunset there and we went to Rainbow Church and the seashell museum, not bad tho'
I will definitely go to Cijin Island again ehe

A day trip to this island was easy. Took the orange line to the last station sizihwan and walk about 5 mins to the pier. Every few mins there is a ferry and take about 3 mins across. Upon arrival, we booked the motor bicycle 4 seater @ 500 NT for 2.5hrs (we book from the stall at the side which allow us to negotiate the price).
Going around the island was a breeze .. we stop at the lighthouse, startunnel, rainbow church and the huge seashell icon and museum for photoshoot. Very nice view. On the way, we stop over at a market selling all the local seafood snacks which we grab as souvenirs. After returning the bicycle, we went for lunch at 1 of the recommended seafood restaurant which served delicious food at a very reasonable price!
