A very good 3 star ahotel

Review of Liga Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Sept 2019via mobile
As a 3 star hotel, this is a very good hotel. The staff is friendly, the room is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is also quite nice with various foods such as porridge, soy milk, toast, fried noodle, salad bar and fruit bar too. Strongly recommended for anyone traveling to Hualien to stay here to have a great trip and/or vacation.

The opposite of this hotel has some dumpling restaurants which are vy nice. There's a parking slot nearby and the staff is nice. Reasonable price n quite n good service. 酒店還設有洗衣服務 免費無線上網離夜市市中心也很近 這幾天天氣也很好, 心情更加舒暢, 這酒店是一個很好的選擇

The hotel was probably built in the 80s so certain parts look a little under the weather however the staffs perfectly charming attitude makes up for this as they are forever helpful and always smiling

We had a small problem with the air conditioning and the hotel reception came within 5 minutes and offered us an upgrade . They reception staff helped us pack and moved our suitcases The rooms are comfortable clean if you choose to can be made up each day so all is good

The breakfast is buffet style offering a selection of hot and cold Asian and European dishes it’s very good and you can eat as much as you like so we did

This hotel has a pay per load laundry room to wash everything you have and the hotel provides free washing powder.

We stayed at Liga hotel for two nights. I would like to share the following info

Here is some information that you may find useful.
We took a taxi from train station to Liga hotel for $110. From hotel Far East department store is $115. There are some nicer restaurants across the street.
Walk to Hualien down town is about ten minutes. Walk to DongDaman night market is 25 minutes.
BTW we used one of the glass to drink wine. Whoever cleaned our room did not do a good job. I can see wine stain on the glass.

Close to train station. Breakfast has variety choices but dishes are mainly cold and not that tasty. However the staff here are very accommodated and provide good services. Hotel quite old. It is fine for a temporary stop over.

Here are the things we liked about the hotel:

a) We asked for a quiet room, and got a mostly quiet room on the 8th floor. Some street noise, but nothing that disturbed our sleep.
b) The breakfast had a lot of options -- although not all food was of the same quality. Some of the food was cold when it should have been hot. Mostly aimed at Asian guests, but with some western options. I wouldn't say the breakfast was great, but instead "very good".
c) Some of the staff were helpful and courteous. I want to give a shout out to "Johnny" who worked reception a couple nights we were here. He can be distinguished from some of the other reception staff by the following: he greeted us when he saw us, and didn't just stare down at the paperwork in front of him. He acknowledged us again the next night, smiling and nodding. This seems like a small gesture, but few workers at this hotel even went this far.
d) Somewhat good location.
e) The price! It was very reasonable
f) When we asked for extra pillows from reception, they were delivered efficiently and with good humor.
g) The music in the hallway was subtle and a nice touch.
h) Wifi was quick and easy to use!

What we would like to change with a wave of our hand if possible:

a) There was a huge step down from the bathroom to the main part of our room, which made nighttime visits to the toilet particularly very hazard-likely. We proceeded carefully, but when sleepy and in the dark, such gaps can be dangerous.

b) The ac controls and the shower controls were in Chinese only. Much of the clientele who come to this hotel are buses of Taiwanese who are here for a day or two. They sometimes overwhelm the staff and lobby, making it hard to feel welcomed.

c) Could food be marked as vegetarian at breakfast? We noticed they were labeled for "our Muslim travelers", but why not also mark if the dishes contain meat.

d) Some reception staff had no English skills at all, which made for some awkward non-conversations.

Would I book here again? Yes!

Room tip: As for a higher floor away from the traffic noise ...
