Okay....so you're thinking of going to Port Barton and you're looking at Villa Marguerita. All I can say is.....look no further! I am serious! Villa Marguerita is, bar none, the best place to stay in Port Barton. I know you are browsing around through the photos of VM on Trip Adviser so keep in mind that this place is located on the most prime location on the beach. Best of all...this place is a private residence. Basically I can say that it is an entire private estate. The house is set back from the beach and the whole house is yours. Out front is the restaurant and bar BUT guess what....this is for your private use! YUP....when we stayed here breakfast comes as part of the package and then I would organize what we would like for dinner with Marilyn and set a time to eat. Perfection! Shrimp, fish, chicken, pork....! And you and yours are the only guests with your own private chef!

When you are looking at the photos note the big tree in front. It is called a Borok tree and beneath it is a palapa on a raised platform with 2 large lounging cushions....my husband and I literally lived there!! This Borok tree proves to be quite a draw as fellow travellors gather under her branches for a bit of shade.

Marilyn and Arnold are the managers at VM and you will not meet two nicer people. They, along with their lovely family took the most wonderful, friendly and helpful care of us.

Now Port Barton! It is definitely off the beaten path. Power runs from 6:00 - 12:00 midnight. It is a backpackers haven and we really enjoyed watching them traipse by on the beach to reach their accommodations. Many languages are spoken here with English of course being the universal language.

Port Barton is extremely safe and I am very happy to report seeing many girls travelling alone or in groups of 2 or 3...having a wonderful time, not being hassled. No one hassles anyone anywhere or anytime....not that I saw or experienced.

Food can be somewhat challenging at times and Arnold gave us a wonderful tip. If you are planning at eating at a particular restaurant an idea could be to go to the restaurant earlier in the day order your dinner and let them know what time you will be arriving. Remember....cooking here is not like cooking at home. Definitely more challenges...so be patient and have an extra beer!

We organized a lot of meals at VM and ate out lunch and a few dinners. The Summer House next door to VM has good food and good service! Stuffed squid seems to be a specialty at a few restaurants and it is yummy (if you like squid!:)

The water....you've seen the photos and guess what? The water is way better than the photos!!! Sooooo beautiful and warm and you will be literally living in the water.

The outrigger boats reminded me of dragonflies....buzzing and skimming over the water. VM can set up all of your trips for you....easy as pie and so reasonably priced. We went out 6 times! German Island....you'll want to never leave! Tip: snap up a hammock as soon as you hop off the boat.

My final tip is......take lots of PHP pesos with you!!!! Remember there are no banks or no ATM's and Visa is good for your accommodations but that's about it. Also....seriously do stock up in Puerto Princessa before going to Port Barton. If you like wine for example bring all you will need. It is hard to find and expensive (relatively) when you do. All of your special treats....bring them with you from PP and lots of them! :)

I guarantee you will have an amazing time here........and don't forget to do the Underground River tour the entire experience is fabulous!
Enjoy friends!!

Wow...Thanks for the lovely review Katherine. Our staff spoke so kindly of you and your husband. It gives as pleasure seeing our guests enjoy our home. It's been very dry in the Philippines for a few month now and the town water pressure was a problem, so we've added an extra tank and pump to get water to the top floor. Thanks for notifying us of the issue. I hope we see you again sometime. Regards from Marilyn and Arnold.

We would like to thank Arnold and Marilyn for taking so good care of us during our stay.
Marilyn is a excellent cook and Arnold guided us to a waterfall among other things and kept us company behind the bar in the evenings. The kids loved Moi-Moi and hade a great experience with the snake. We paddled almost every morning and did some island hoping trips with snorkelling wile Acer and Francisco the boatmen cooked a great lunch on the beach. Our kids loved to play around with Arnold & Marilyn's kids Liam and Aron.
The house is in native style and have no AC but we didn't mind. There are fans but we hardly ever used them, the beds are really good in all bedrooms.
The location are almost right at the beach and we loved to take a walk there every morning before breakfast. We have nothing to complain about and love to come back some time!

Me and my family had a great stay in Villa Marguerita! This place will be perfect either you travel with family or friends. The crew are really nice and they serve some amasing food. There is plenty of things to do for both for adults and kids, like padling, island hopping, private bar with pooltable, swing for the kids or just lazy days under a palm tree. The prices are really affordable to. I would love to come back.

“Fantastic Family Adventure”

Our families would like to take the opportunity to thank Mal and the crew at Villa Marguerita and Gilligan’s for their outstanding hospitality. Our families had a fantastic time at both locations.
Arnold & Marilyn were of great assistance and made our stay enjoyable knowing they could organize our day to day activities.

Thank you Arnold & Marilyn for organizing the Lechon, which was a great experience for all involved. We all have wonderful memories of Port Barton, with the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful scenery.
The kids still talk about Moi-Moi and Titi Moi-Moi, what a great experience. Everyday seemed like an adventure.

Thank you also to Estrella and Roger at Gilligan’s for their hospitality, and to our cooking needs.
Thank you Marilyn for organizing our food for Gilligan’s.

We would also like to thank Asil (Captain) for taking us out fishing at night. Wow, we didn’t think we were going to land that 9kg Mackerel on a hand line. Now that was an experience in itself.
Thank you Asil for the Island Hopping trip. Our families loved the snorkeling, and you also cooked a great lunch to be enjoyed on the beach, couldn’t ask for more.

Thank you Abner for getting us there and back from Puerto Princesa, he sure knows his off road expertise.

The staff at both Villa Marguerita and Gilligan’s tended to our needs and also provided us with the mindful space and privacy.

Both families hope to have the opportunity to experience this wonderful place again in the future.

“Best Vacation EVER!”
Reviewed 18 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Villa Marguerita is the most amazing place thanks to the most helpful and friendly staff ever. My group included myself, my mom, dad, brother, husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law and every single one of us had a wonderful time.

I have rented many private homes for various vacations and Mal (the owner) is the most helpful owner I have ever worked with. He answered all of my emails within 24 hours and always did whatever he could to help the planning process. This made it so much easier once we got to Palawan.

The driver, Kuya Abner, sure does know his way around the crazy unpaved roads to Port Barton. He had absolutely no trouble maneuvering the van over some sketchy dirt roads. He is also quite the entertainer when in come to billiards and also has some impressive dance moves :)

Kuya Arnold is the best host and guide for whatever you may need. He seems to be a wealth of information. He has the friendliest and most outgoing personality. His wife, Ate Marilyn is by far the best cook on the island. We made the mistake of trying a few other restaurants and came to the conclusion that her cooking was always better. My mom especially loved being able to buy fresh seafood then Ate Marilyn would transform it into a gourmet meal.

Asher, the resident boatman, is pretty quiet but super witty if you get him going. He always got us out to the best snorkeling spots before it got "crowed" with other tourist and is a pretty good cook as well. The man knows his way around an island grill.

As for Tita Eva, I absolutely love her. She is basically your auntie that make sure you aren't ever hungry, thirsty, or whatever. She's the best!

After a few days everyone felt like family. A few times, my family including the staff, were able to all sit together at the long table and eat dinner together family style. Those were my favorite meals of all. Afterwards we would start playing pool or just sit around and talk.

My husband and brother-in-law especially loved playing pool with Arnold, Abner, Asher, Tita Eva's son, and whoever else showed up. They were introduced to the Filipino drinking concept of "tagay" and enjoyed every minute of it.

There were also so many activities to do. Snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, island hopping, playing random yard games, reading, exploring the town, or my favorite, watching Aaron play with his friends in the yard or just entertaining his baby brother Liam. Port Barton is so peaceful and beautiful that anything you do is enjoyable.

This was the best vacation ever and we are already talking about when we can come back.
