Electric tandems are definitely the future ! Just back from an amazing "Tandem and Turrets" break. Steve expertly guided us through beautiful countryside on roads which were virtually empty of cars up into ridiculously pretty villages and all with the aid of the "Boost button" .. Stopping off at Monet's lilly pond, was such a lovely surprise. The electric tandems allowed us to cover so much more distance and go up hills we would never normally attempt yet we still felt we'd had some great exercise ! (Just as well as we were always greeted back by Angela plying us with tea and home made cakes, divine) After flopping in the pool, we would take the boat out down the river, play a bit of table tennis or just lounge around. Evenings started with canapés & bubbles on the patio followed by a three course dinner served under the eves of pool house. Sheer and utter luxury ! Thank you Angela & Steve it was truly amazing.
We had an amazing time staying at Chateau Caillac on one of their tandems and turrets breaks. We cycled every day on the most comfortable bike I have ever sat on. The brand new,high-spec,electric tandems were a revelation. We rode an enjoyable 50k a day along country lanes, by the river and up hills. We visited cafes and picnic’d in the countryside. Steve is a perfect tour leader with his encyclopaedic knowledge of the local roads. Then, back to the chateau for a cool dip in the pool and a gourmet meal .... With wine of course... I did not want to come home !
Just returned from a fabulous few days at Chateau Caillac doing a test run of their Luxury Tandem holidays. From the moment we were collected from Bergerac airport by Steve and our welcome at Fongrave by Angela with drinks and nibbles we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. A beautiful property in a stunning location, delicious home cooked food washed down with wine and prosecco whats not to like? As for the revelation of the electric tandems, we thought it would feel a bit like we were cheating but the boost of power meant we could ride further afield and tackle hills that we would never dream of in this country. Steve chose some amazing routes in a variety of landscapes- riverside and ridges and it was a privilege to share in it all. Steve and Angela are the perfect team to offer these holidays and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys leisure cycling, great food and luxury accommodation. Thank you both.
We had a wonderful time at the Chateau. The setting is beautiful and the chateau has the absolute wow factor. So many rooms to explore and just a fairy tale for the children! The chateau was extremely safe with children - gated to the river and pool. So much to do....or the option to just laze by the pool. Swimming, football, cycling and kayaking not to mention the gorgeous tree house.
I have already been recommending the chateau to friends and really hope to return one day!
A large group of 17, made up of adults and children ranging from 9-14, stayed at Chateau Caillac for a week and we had a fabulous time. The setting in the beautiful French countryside with the River Lot running along the bottom of the garden is gorgeous and the chateau itself is lovely.
We were met by the housekeeper Kim who offered help in booking local restaurants and activities. She also offers a shopping service which we took advantage of to save us having to beat closing time at the supermarket on the way from the airport. There was also a big welcome pack waiting for us.
We enjoyed the use of the kayak, rowing boat and bikes at the chateau and also the huge gardens. We were able to have a group game of football and rounders which the kids loved, and there were plenty of table tennis and pool matches too. We spent a lot of time in the pool and also the river so you can do as much or as little as you like. Other than trips to the bakery and short bike rides we only really ventured out to Fongrave night market on a Thursday evening which had a nice atmosphere. Instead we made the most of the space and activities at the chateau itself.
The chateau is also set up for younger children too - the pool and river are both fenced off securely and there is use of cot and high chair if needed.
We had a really lovely week and hope to return to Chateau Caillac in the future.
