“What a fantastic little B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2010

The B&B is wonderful! We spent 5 nights here and it was exactly what we expected. The owners are friendly and although their english is limited they really made an effort for us. The whole property has genuine charm - the rooms are very spacious and the one we had overlooked the terrace, they are really clean, the breakfast is lovely and the food in the evening was 24 euros per person with wine with every course and 5 courses! You eat with Michelle and Jean Claude and they are very good hosts. The gardens are really lovely and they have their own Vineyard.
The hotel is right in the centre of the Medoc region and villages like Lesparre and Paulliac are about a 10 - 15 min drive. It is a really quiet region with not much going on but if you want to relax and chill and drink wine / eat cheese then this is ideal. You will need a car to drive around and if we did it again we would probably stay the night in St Emilion or Bordeaux just to break the trip up a bit. Make sure you book any wine tastings at the chateaux at least 3 - 4 weeks in advance if not a bit sooner. They get really booked up and if you want to visit the famous chateaux then you need to book in advance.

The Le Moulin B&B is a bit out of the way for the average tourist. It is situated about from 70klms north east of Bordeaux in the middle of famous Medoc wine growing area.
The B&B is well worth the drive (our GPS made it easier to find this accommodation) and is situated in the middle of a working vineyard. This delightful B&B was re-built by the owners Jean-Claude and Michelle from an old french villa. The B&B has a wonderful personality with many old french artifacts on display and you will find the very clean rooms a delight and very large. The ensuite had a lovely shower and it was a good size. Drinks can be enjoyed on a large rear patio that overlook Michelle's beautiful garden and the surrounding vineyards. The dining area is huge and has a large table where, if you are lucky, you can share dinner with the owners and other guests. When we booked we asked Michelle if she would provide us with dinner. We were so glad she did as the five different courses were delightful and was washed down by some local wine. We enjoyed dinner so much that we decided to eat in again the following night instead to driving into Bordeaux as planned.
Some of the famous local vineyards in this area are Chateau Lafitte Rothschild, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte (free tour available CSHL but book before you leave home).
When driving through the little village of Margot be sure to call into the local wine shop and talk to the Aussie owner (Wayne) - he knows everything about french wine and will advise you what wines to buy. We had been disapointed with the French wine we had been buying in supermarkets. After discussing this with Wayne he selected 12 bottles of assorted reds & whites - they were all perfect and changed our thoughts of french wine !!!
Bordeaux is well worth a day trip as is Saint Emilion (a lovely old historic village - be sure to take the tour through the 9th century catacombs and the church).
We only stayed two days in this area but we wished we had stayed another two days as there is plenty to see and do.

It doesn't get better than this!!!
