We went for a birthday dinner for my husband. I had found the restaurant recommended on the web. It was everything it's cracked up to be. We had the 46€ menu & a lovely bottle of wine & were treated like royalty. The restaurant has a lovely, comfortable & relaxing atmosphere, was full but there was no hurry, the table was ours for the evening.
The food was just amazing from an 'amuse bouche' that included a quails egg yolk to langoustines, froi gras, veal and monkfish, cheese and lovely desserts. It was true fine dining. The service was excellent, friendly without being pushy and helpful to first time visitors. We will go back even though we live an hour away. It was perfect. My husband even had a candle for his birthday. Superb restaurant with the finest food I've tasted in Lot et Garonne. Thanks!

A great pity we don't live locally otherwise we would definitely become very regular customers.!,
We have holidayed in France for years and restaurants like the Vieille Auberge continue to amaze me.
Very discreetly tucked down a small side street in Casteljaloux and not immediately obvious.
No wonder the regulars keep it to themselves!!
The total experience was truly satisfying and that very obviously, includes the food.
We went for the 46€ menu and chose a foie gras starter and boeuf for mains.accompanied by a great Duras wine.
The desert, which was brilliant, but defies description, other than to day that poached peaches were in there somewhere.!
The service was excellent, the seating and table most comfortable.
Would I go again?, most definitely.

A similar meal in the U.K. in a "bistro" pub would cost double and not have an ounce of the atmosphere of the V A.

We went on recommendation and were not disappointed. We all had the 46€ menu, three had foie gras for starter, one had langoustine salad. All good portions. Thence to cote de veau, riz de veau or pièce de boucher. Excellent. The wines chosen were reasonable both in quality and cost. We will definitely go again.

None of us had ever been before, it was by recommendation, so a little bit of an experiment. However, it was simply a wonderful lunch; we were 8, four couples, took the simple (€24) menu and had some of best gambas (entre - about 10 of them!), volaille (plat principale, juicy, delicious) and creme brule (dessert - far too large!) I have had the pleasure of tasting for years. And all done in a lovely, warm, friendly atmosphere. The town is worth visiting in any case but don't miss an opportunity of a splendid meal. At €24 for the simple menu (which took us three hours of convivial chat) I cannot imaging what their €70 menu must be like. You'd need to book a room for after!

We can't help but continually return to dine at La Vieille Auberge. We are always made very welcome, and this visit was no different when we were welcomed by Jason who looked after us for the duration of our meal.

Following our amuse bouche, we all had langoustines (starter) and beef (main course) which were superb - full of flavour and perfectly cooked. The restaurant has an excellent cheese board to suit all tastes.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our desserts, with the chocolate fondant, my favourite, being a particular hit.

The accompanying wine was also top notch.

There was another nice touch when we were served with a mini panacotta with coffee.

The service was impeccable as was the overall ambience of the fully booked restaurant - always a good sign!

I would highly recommend La Vieille Auberge and hope to be dining there again very soon!
