“Laid back in the provence sun”
Reviewed 25 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

My family comprising myself and my wife our two sons in their early twenties and one of their partners, and my elderly parents stayed at la truffiere the third week in August.
Dominic, the owner had kindly offered us three bedrooms in the main house and the self contained cottage for my parents, which worked really well.
both house and cottage were very well appointed, and had everything we needed, although lets face it in august in Provence it;s not about the house!
we spent literally all our time enjoying the outside space. the only time we spent in the house was for sleeping.
The pool was great, and we especially enjoyed eating outside under the awning by the back doors, we also cooked outside on the grill everyday.
My wife and I know the area reasonably well, so we did not feel the need to sightsee and just used the week to relax and recharge, although we did pop across to Rouissillon, and the mighty market in Carpentras on the Friday.
We don't feel enough is made of the local village of St Didier, Which is about a twenty minute walk from the property. It is absolutely beautiful and has every thing you could need including butchers a fantastic boulangerie, a well stocked mini market and several cafes etc.
We did a major shop in the hypermarket at Pernes la Fontaine about 15 minutes away, but could have probably got by just using the village shops.
On our last day our train did not leave until mid afternoon so we spent half a day at the stunning Fontaine de Vaucluse which is somewhere we always return to when we are in the area, this place is a must for a visit if you can.
All in all a blissful week in the sunshine, helpful owners and a lovely property

Liked best: the outside space, the pool and the local village which was beautiful
Liked least: the mattresses and pillows but this seems to be standard in France, probably why everyone is up so early.

“Charming house in stunning Provence”
Reviewed 10 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

St Didier is just over half an hour's drive from Avignon and within easy driving distance of Provençal "must-sees" such as the perched town of Gordes, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Vaison-la-Romaine, St Rémy de Provence, les Baux de Provence, le Pont du Gard, Mont Ventoux, etc.

At the end of a long driveway you find la Truffière, a lovingly restored house surrounded by trees providing plenty of shade (hammocks, loungers, benches, tables and chairs abound in the large garden) and a good-sized salt water swimming pool. The house itself is very "homey" - you can tell you are living in somebody's home rather than in a purpose-built rental, but the furnishings and decor are tasteful and typical. In this hot summer you want to be spending your time by the pool, on a lounger, or around the long dinner table outside of the French windows under the shade of the gazebo or "tonnelle". There are a couple of TVs available but we didn't use them. Internet connection never failed, and there is a landline which guests may use to make local calls, or international calls to landlines only, which is a very nice feature.

The ground floor bedrooms are pretty, and have plenty of space to hang clothes and put things away. The bathroom is HUGE with a fantastic shower, large separate tub and "interesting" toilet! There is a second shower on the ground floor in the laundry room. Upstairs is a room where we put the three boy cousins - there was plenty of space in the two beds. It was VERY hot for them - even with a fan (not much to be done about that in a heatwave!) They were a little bothered by the lack of privacy afforded by a curtain rather than a door to the little toilet and sink up there.

Kitchen is well-equipped with everything you would need for everyday cooking. There's a microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker. Dishwasher and washing machine available and fully functioning. Hang your clothes out and they are dry an hour later!

St Didier has a number of good, affordable restaurants with very accommodating chefs for the 4 vegetarians in our group (we loved the little Thai restaurant at the end of town) and it's an easy walk if you don't want to drive. 5 minutes away from the house is a lovely hotel/restaurant 'le Ventoux" whose welcome and cuisine we thoroughly enjoyed on two separate evenings.

Don't miss market day on Monday in St Didier. Try to get there early; it gets very crowded. There's food (fruit and veg, cheese, cured sausage, gorgeous olives, tapenades, etc.) as well as typical regional wares - crockery, soaps, hats, and lots of very pretty cheap cotton and linen dresses. There's a very small supermarket in town but an Intermarché close by in Pernes la Fontaine.

Just up the road from the house is a "Cave Cooperative" where you can taste the local wine. We only drank rosé from La Courtoise (good value in a 5 L box), but we also found a gorgeous slightly sweet sparkling rosé there which became our favourite apéritif.

The owners are very "hands-on" which means they will deal with any issues right away (they made sure someone got rid of the wasp nest we noticed on day 1 ASAP), give you PLENTY of instructions as well as recommendations, and perhaps give you a call during your stay to see how things are going. The property was beautifully clean and tidy when we arrived, and during our stay various people came to tend the pool, the garden, and bring clean linen, but this was very unobtrustively done.

All in all, I thoroughly recommend this house as a lovely base from which to explore the region, or a fabulous place to flop, swim, play pétanque, eat and drink with your loved ones, and read or write your novel.

“Wonderful house with beautiful pool and grounds in a perfect location!”
Reviewed 3 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We have just returned from a stay in the beautiful 'Park La Truffiere'. We could not fault it at all - it is the perfect holiday home in beautiful Provence, and these are some of the reasons why.

Firstly, the house is immaculately maintained - the bedrooms are comfortable and cool, with shutters on all windows and double glazing throughout. Beds are large and provide an excellent night's sleep. The bathroom is very large and has an amazing shower, bath and spa toilet! Kitchen is perfect, with a big fridge and freezer, and all the crockery and utensils you could ever want during your stay. House is full of interesting items from the area and maintained in a beautiful 'shabby chic' style, which suits it down to the ground.

But in our mind, it is the grounds that are the most amazing thing about this property. It has a huge amount of land with lots of shade from the sun in a variety of sun loungers, chairs and benches. If you'd rather be in the sun (as we did!) then no problem - the pool area is perfect, with more sun loungers, chairs and tables. The pool itself is amazing - very large and filled with saltwater, which keeps away insects but also helps skin and joints. It is kept immaculately clean by the pool man who is very friendly and visits once a week.

The location is also brilliant - you feel like you are in the middle of real Provence - not the slightest bit touristy but within 15 mins walk of beautiful St Didier, which has very good bars, restaurants and boulangerie. Fresh croissants and bread can easily be bought every morning with no hassle! The market on Monday is also well worth a look.

However, you are also within sight of Mt Ventoux, and easy driving distance of all the amazing villages and attractions in this part of the Luberon. We went to Gordes, Roussillon, L'isle sur la Sourge and many other places, and they are all worth a visit - all beautiful and full of great bars and restaurants.

Lastly Dominic provides excellent advice, support and help to you - email him with what you'd like to do and he'll send you plenty of recommendations!

We would not hesitate in recommending this amazing house to anyone. You could easily stay with 8-10 people and not feel crowded! A wonderful holiday home in the most beautiful part of France.

“Nice and Private Retreat in St. Didier”
Reviewed 15 July 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We are an American family of 6 (2A and 4C). After winding down a long road, you come to Dominic & Susanna's lovely oasis. The grounds were blooming with flowers and multiple seating areas. Although we didn’t cook, everything we needed was available. There was lots of space for everyone to spread out in the house. Our children enjoyed the pool and there was space for the kids to play and adults to relax with friends and enjoy our treats from the market (wine, cheese, olives and sausages). What we found most valuable were the helpful suggestions from Dominic & Susanna. As it was our first time visiting Provence, they provided, in advance, lovely restaurant recommendations as well as nearby towns to visit that gave us a great introduction to the area. We hope to return soon.

“Fantastic week at a wonderful property”
Reviewed 16 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

In late September we spent a wonderful week at Park La Truffiere. We were a group of 6 - parents with 2 daughters, aged 9 and 11, their Grandma and her Sister stopping off in Provence on route from Southern Germany to Barcelona.

The accommodation was excellent, well appointed and very accurately described on the website. The house is beautifully restored and both the house and grounds are incredibly spacious so that we could happily spread out and each have our own space. There is a large outdoor table (and chairs) for beautiful al fresco dining, multiple sun loungers by the pool, and a number of small tables, benches, chairs and hammocks dotted around the property. Spoiled for choice. The tough decision was deciding which one to choose. A perfect holiday dilemma!!! The hammock was a popular choice. The kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens we've seen in any of the many places we have rented over the years. So many glasses, mugs, cutlery and pots and fry pans. I must say the pool is particularly wonderful... near new, very large and sparkling when we arrived.

The wonderful Provencal village of St Didier where you have a number of restaurants, bakeries, cafes and pizzerias is only a few minute drive away or a comfortable 15-20 minute walk. We felt like we were far away from the tourist route and were experiencing the real Provence.

Susanna and Dominic were very easy to communicate with and we were very appreciative of all the information they provided. They were most determined to make our holiday as memorable as possible. You can tell they have a love of their property, the village and the region.

The house is perfectly located to tour the wonderful Luberon. Unfortunately we only had a week and there was just too much we wanted to see and do to be able to do it all. We really enjoyed the great villages and towns of Gordes, Roussillon, Avignon, Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaines de Vaucluse (I would recommend visiting any of these) which were all within an easy 30-40 minute drive. We also drove to the top of Mt Ventoux (One of the major climbs of the Tour de France) about an hour away which was a highlight. Amazing views across to the Pyrennes and the Mediterranean if you are lucky enough to get a clear day. The Silvain Nougaterie in St. Didier is fantastic and definitely and worth a visit.

Though as others have mentioned with the relaxing park-like surrounds and the fantastic pool we often wanted to just stay at the house and chill. The days we did tour we were always happy to get back to our private little oasis. We had a fantastic week in this delightful villa and would definitely stay there again!
