“Rural setting, peaceful charm”
Reviewed 6 June 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We are a twosome in our early seniorhood. When we travel, we like to balance full-paced sightseeing with some time for restful relaxation. We no longer will allow ourselves to return from a vacation more tired than when we started. Besides, a country's people and daily life can be as interesting as its history and buildings.

We recently returned from a 2-week trip to southern England and northern France. It was Meghan's first time, so we had a heavy sightseeing agenda. My plan allocated a 4-day R&R break late in the trip. I knew we would both need it, and being in France, I knew the Loire Valley was the place to make this happen. So we just needed to find the right accommodation to fit our needs.
We wanted a quiet, rural setting, off the beaten path, a self-sufficient accommodation so we could get our own wine, cheese, fresh veggies/meats, but still have some opportunity for outside activities and excursions at our own pace.
Well, thank heavens for the internet, for we were able to search out Le Studio Vert nestled in the hills of the pastoral Loire Valley. Specifically, the multi-acre estate consisted of an old restored main home with an attached separate apartment (the studio). Active farmland was just next door and all around us.We had our own close parking area with our private entrance above and a spacious patio and sitting area below.
The apartment itself was roomy, bright, full of windows, very clean and well appointed. The kitchen was quite functional with the necessary appliances and utensils. The bedroom was adequately homey, and the bathroom was large and modernized. Most memorable were the open doors and windows, fresh country air and smells, spanning views of the placid countryside, and the quiet. How nice to get up in the morning and just do whatever we feel like.....more coffee and lounging, more sleep, a long walk, a drive in the country, reading a book in the shade of a garden......or nothing. The vast grounds and foliage were well-landscaped and maintained, allowing for country club ambiance and subtle rural elegance. Note the small pond with baby koi, who loved the French bread almost as much as we did. Our excursions included a 5-mile venture into the nearby village of Descartes for their weekly farmers' market, sampling everything from cheese to fresh produce to the local people. Another day-trip was the lovely chateaux of Villandry, an hour away.
No question. For us, Le Studio Vert was absolutely perfect and just what we were looking for! The owners/hosts, Pauline and Colin ( and their adorable new lab pup, Nougat) were wonderful folks and very accommodating. I hardly gave notice to the price when booking but now realize the great value Pauline is offering to her guests. It's obviously not about the money. Frankly, remuneration has very little import to either party in places like this. It's all about the experience, la joie de viver!

A note of caution to round out this glowing review:
Le Studio Vert is not easy to get to. We had a car and motivation and we made the necessary time. This is not someplace you just stay at for a night as you're passing through. If your goal is to see as many sights and attractions as possible while in France, then maybe this is not for you. Note for those with physical limitations that this is upstairs. There is no A/C, if you find that mandatory. And, finally, this is rural France where most people do not speak English, though more and more are doing so. That being said, Pauline and Colin are Brits and speak better English than I do.

“Another marvellous stay at Le Studio Vert”

Our second visit to Le Studio Vert in the Loire Valley was again a wonderful experience. Colin and Pauline are fantastic hosts who receive you with warmth and have an incredible eye for detail. The location is great with views of the rolling French Countryside and the most amazing little towns with charm and history.

This region boasts great restaurants serving the most sumptuous food at great value for money (even post Brexit)

The studio apartment is attached to the wing of the main residence but really feels like it's on it's own. There is a huge totally private garden to relax in , with everything you need including a barbecue and loungers. The apartment itself is so well equipped that you would find it hard to think of anything that is missing that you could possibly want.

You would certainly not find more charming hosts who can divide knowledgeably on places to go and restaurants to eat in. There is a Michelin star restaurant called Le Promenade that is a must and very well priced.

Definitely a return venue and a good place to go for a long weekend if flying into Tours from Stansted.

We worth a visit

This is a beautiful gite. The location is amazing - stunning views everywhere over beautiful countryside and easy for us to jump in the car to go towns and villages to visit markets, chateau etc. The property has been furnished to a very high standard and is actually a lot more spacious than you would think looking at the photos. Pauline and Colin were superb hosts and have clearly put a huge amount of thought into the accommodation as everything you needed was to hand - welcome drinks, bread and cheese, water in the bedroom, quality hand wash and moisturiser in the smart, modern shower room (large walk in shower) even bath robes and slippers !! It was like being in a 5 star hotel. The kitchen was well equipped so great for rustling up meals after visiting the markets and there is also a bbq. Beautiful private terrace. Cannot rate this place highly enough and will visit again. Highly recommended, thank you Pauline and Colin.

“Perfect Escape with Wonderful Hosts”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This was the first time my partner and I decided on a driving holiday in France, and we can't express how impressed we were. The food, the people and the sights were just simply amazing.

Our choice of accommodation could not have been better. Perfect studio apartment presented to the highest standard with just about everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay. The location was peaceful and the views were terrific. A large garden at your disposal with BBQ, patio furniture, sun beds and delightful surroundings.

Our English hosts could not do anymore to make our stay perfect,. Both Pauline and Colin helped us with advice, tourist information and even recipies. The local Michelin Star restaurant recommended by them was amazing and terrific value (an absolute must)

Could not recommend this place enough and hope to see Pauiline and Colin again soon.

Thank you both.

Jude and Paul
