“A most beautiful spot”

Old Government House
Ranked #3 of 30 things to do in Parramatta
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 April 2018

We took a ferry all around the harbour (45 mins) until we arrived at Parramatta where we walked to Old Government House accompanied by the many white cockatoos which flew around us ( non threatening). On advice of friend had a wonderful lunch under the veranda which is surrounded by vine leaves. Delightful service most delicious lamb and well worth the trip. Having walked around we eventually went back to sydney on the doubledecker train NEW ZEALAND TAKE NOTE look ahead you need good infrastructure for the coming years. Easy and enjoyable travel

So easily you can be taken back to this period of time. Loved it. Well kept place and we got to see the cellar as well.

This is a little visited gem: the house is a simple, elegant, unpretentious Georgian country house - really unexpected. Take the rivercat from Circular Quay to Paramatta, then the free bus to the park. Tell the driver where you want to go. Then a pleasant stroll through the garden - you’ll probably be shown round by yourselves and if you’ve any interest in Australia and in history, you’ll enjoy yourself. Also, the Groundskeeper café at the gates is ok - some interesting dishes. You can take the train back - but avoid the stopping train!

Seven friends out for High Tea. Served at 10am which I first thought was too early but the time was great, staying til 1pm giving you all afternoon free. Food was lovely and fresh. Our waiter was very attentive.

The tour of old Governmemt House is well worth it if you like a little of the old Australian History - it is genuine history with the add ons to the venue & lunch can be had there as well
