“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2012

Spent a very lovely evening at the Cotswold Water Park for a Company function. Everyone said that the room was beautiful. Staff were efficient but not intrusive.

All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Check in/out was quick despite the number of people waiting. The bedroom was very clean and of a high standard, plenty of towels and extra pillows.

Unfortunately I left something behind but the staff were extremely helpful and offered to post it back to me which was unexpected and appreciated.

The food was exceptional, especially considering they were feeding over 100 people. Breakfast the next morning was efficient and well organised with plenty of variety including pastries, continental and full english breakfast.

Would definately visit again.

We are very grateful for the positive comments made here and our guests compliments will be shared with all out staff, most notably our room attendants, our reception team and the Brasserie staff who alongside all our other departmental staff enjoy the work that they do in order to provide a pleasurable stay for our guests.

Positive feedback shared with our team helps to motivate us all to maintain the high standards of service that we aim to achieve. It is rewarding to hear that our efforts are appreciated as many of our guests have already advised us.

If you are interested in the lakes and want an interesting break then this is the place to be. The hotel its self has the reception just on the right as you walk in through the main doors which also has a comfortable seating area , bar and resturant all next to each other so you do not have to go searching for those places. i stayes one night in a double room which had a huge balcony with table and chairs on that you could easily sunbathe on should you every stay there in the summer or just sit and have a pleasant bottle of wine on. It over looked the lakes with swans on which was very nice. Ther should have been a bath robe and slippers in our room which there was not but as iwas only staying one night and had already been to the pool and sauna and been given a towel there i was not really bothered about that. If you go to the spa you are given a robe and slippers to change into and i believe disposable underwear. The sauna is huge and very comfortable makde up of beanch type seating. i was a little dissapointed in the steam room as it was not as hot as I would have liked it if you lay down it was cold, but again it is very big. The bar staff are very pleasant but young and on two occcasions when ordering food and coffee they forgot to bring my coffe even though I had paid, and my husbands beer was extreamly cloudy and had white bits in it , but they brought him another free of charge. the food on the night at the company do , was a pate started that was plentful but bland and rather spongy , and the pork was cut thick and tasty , however the roast potatoes where obviously frozen abd had that powdery texture and the carrots and beans were again bland. Cheese and biscuits were fine and sweets looked lovely howver again the tables were set out for coffee and chocolates and our table of eight never got it. There seems to be a thing witht he coffee strange. Wouldnt know about the cost as our company paid . The one most annoying thing is that we were in room 469 which was about 10mins from reception down several long corridors the outside over some covered decking back in to the building again then up 2 flights of stairs. because my husband went golfing and left me for check in I had to drag a suitcase up these stairs that i was not prepard for.

Room Tip: get a room with balcony but ask that it is near reception area or else you could end up with a VERY...

We are happy that these guests enjoyed the stylistic choices that we have made at The Cotswold Water Park Four Pillars Hotel and that they found all our facilities easily located for their use.

Our concierge are not only happy to help with luggage on arrival and departure but can offer a wealth of information on the local area and places of interest to visit during your stay.

We are pleased that the company function was a success and that the menu was enjoyable. We look forward to welcoming our guests back to stay with us again in the future.

Just returned from a weekend break at the end of the February half-term. First time to the hotel and the area. Beautifully located around Lake 6 of the lakes with ample decking at the lakes edge to stroll along and enjoy the views. A large hotel and the restaurant was busy at times ( not sue how full the hotel was ). We had the standard double room and like other reviewers noted cobwebs on the ceiling - otherwise the room was spotlessly clean. Room was spacious, bed and chairs comfortable - the shower was superb and the water always hot. Flat scren TV on the wall and electric plug sockets to use. Free internet that worked very well for us. Surprisingly no clock on the TV or anywhere in the room ( maybe just a personal thing that I like to see the time when I wake during the night so used my mobile ). Check in and out at reception was fast and easy. Express checkout is available but we couldn't use that as there was an error on the paper bill which was already resolved by the time we checked out ( was too late to be removed from the paper bill put through the door in the early hours ). Restaurant was busy both at breakfast and Dinner and on the Saturday night. We had courteous and efficient service on both breakfasts and evening meals ( we were on a BBEM package ).
We both thought the food was excellent - a good choice at both breakfast and dinner and if you are on the evening meal package worth going a la catre and paying any difference over your £22.50pp allowance
Bar service was very efficient. After diinner each night the bar staff offered to take the drinks to the table - nice touches.
At all times we found the staff polite and courteous with cheerful smiles
Four Pillars offer discounted entry to local attractions - when we asked about Blenheim Palace we were told to show the key cards and a discount would be applied - unfortunately Blenheim Palace advised that you need a physical ticket issued by FP. We mentioned this to the different receptionists both later that evening and the next morning at checkout and they were surprised by this as both said it was the usual practise to just show the room key card - so it could have been be that Blenheim Palace have got it wrong ( only been opened for 1 week this season ). .
We didn't use the Spa facilities/gym/pool, nor did we even look at them so are unable to comment on them.
Would we go again - yes and in the better weather and happily pay the upgrade to have a lake view as the sun rises over the late - it was beautiful to watch over Sunday breakfast

Room Tip: ground foloor rooms close to reception can be noisy at night when revellelers return to their rooms...

We would like to thank this guest for their generous review.
We are happy that they enjoyed their guest room and our spacious decked area alongside the hotel as well as the Lakeside Brasserie and the menu that we offer.

Our Brasserie has an a la carte menu and a Table d 'hote menu which changes daily so that guests staying with us for longer periods of time are able to enjoy new dishes when dining with us. Several packages are available at the time of your hotel reservation including Bed & Breakfast deals, accommodation with Dinner and Spa packages.

This was our first Spa experience and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Although the location was breathtaking and the food was lovely, sadly the rooms were no better than a budget hotel. I am assuming that the 4* status is based on the location and the Spa facility as opposed to the accommodation? The first thing we noticed when we opened the room door (126) was a bleach stain on the carpet. The further into the room we went, the more stains on the carpet became apparent along with a 'stray' cashew nut in the middle of the floor!? The bathroom, although clean, had a funny damp smell. Yes - there was tea and coffee making facilties for two (although only one packet of biscuits) and yes there was an ironing board and this may be all that needs to be done to achieve a 4* rating, however the room just seemed generally tired, dirty and basic.

We felt that the swimming pool area was relatively small, especially between 3pm - 6pm which is 'kids time' but also coincides with 'check - in', so was naturally the time that we wanted to go to the Spa (when we arrived). A female employee could be found regularly taking a member of the public's dirty towel from the 'used towel bin' and cleaning/drying the floor area with it by dragging her foot on top of it around the floor!

In comparison, the evening meal was lovely and the treatments I received in the Spa were fantastic.

We clearly made the wrong choice of venue for this Birthday treat!

Spa 6 follows the true philosophy of a spa, offering an extensive heat and water therapy suite in addition to a full range of beauty treatments, to ensure that all our guests leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Every one of our therapists is trained to the highest possible professional standard, so all you have to do is lie back and enjoy the ultimate spa experience.

Children are not permitted in the spa treatment area or gymnasium, however may use the spa pool at restricted times.Children's swimming times and we respectfully ask that guests with children who are 16 and under can adhere to these times.

We are sorry that this guest seemed not to enjoy the stylistic choices that so many of our guests have commented as excellent but we hope that the differences in each of the hotels in our group would provide them with a building style more suited to their tastes. It is significant that we do not market the hotel as a ‘quiet retreat’ or an ‘exclusive four star’, with over 300 bedrooms leading to 600+ guests staying per night at the weekend, The Cotswold Water Park Four Pillars Hotel is a busy resort property and we receive many compliments on what we offer for the fair price that we charge.

Kind Regards,

Had a family meal on a saturday lunch, not overly busy, booked table in advance had name on reservation but no table set up. Table was very dirty, had to ask for it to be cleaned, Staff didn't seem very friendly, food took over an hour to arrive with 2 very hungry children was not at all good, food bland and staff didn't take notice of different requirement from menu, seemed too busy standing in huddles chatting. Had the pumpkin soufle, more like a starter portion and no chestnuts or apples on the plate, was still very hungry after eating this and at £9.95 thought it was very overpriced. Took about 20 mins to clear away plates and not once asked if meal ok. Overall nice surroundings, looks good on the outside, but lacks friendliness and good food. Far better pubs in and around Cirencester to eat and get better food and value for money.

We apologise that this guest did not have a table ready at The Old Boathouse having taken the rouble to make a reservation in advance of their arrival and will ensure the appropriate measures are put in place to ensure that this does not happen again.

We do have a very friendly team in place and any training issues raised in this review will be addressed. The Old Boathouse offers casual dining, somewhere where you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat in a relaxed setting. In fact, we’re one of the few pubs in the area that serve food all day.

We use as many local suppliers as possible, ensuring that ingredients are excellent quality, and have built up a good reputation throughout the Cotswolds.
